Talking

Joe...will it slice the overhead ceiling fan blades in two as you're dancing around wearing that loin cloth?

I've got a handmade Kukri with a hand-forged 12inch blade. It wasn't sharpened when I got it, and I haven't sharpened it yet, but this Gurkha is heavy and stout enough to break bones.

I plan on sharpening it sometime soon. Anybody got any reccomendations on whether to use a bastard file, or just a regular knife sharpener?

Thumbs up

These are the real-deal... you are correct NRAJOE...

Himalayan Imports - Khukuri (Nepal)

The workhorse of the Gurkas during WWII, this model saw service in both Europe and Pacific theaters. Our number three best seller, this is probably the best combination of weapon and tool that can be had. This khukuri is the favorite of many Bando practitioners. If you try it you will quickly fall in love with it. This 16.5 inch version is about 3/8 inch thick and will weigh in at about 1.5 pounds.

I own this same Khukuri from Himalayan Imports... incredible value.

As for sharpening, I'd ask that question here:

My father was a combat veteran of WWII, serving in the CBI Theater of operations, (China, Burma India). He was on the Burma Road many times, also driving duece and a a halfs on the Ledo Road, driving under combat conditions. Also went to Kunming many times, and flew over the "Hump". He brought back many things, among them a nice 6.5 ariska with bayonet, sling, rounds, etc. Completely intact, including the flash shield on the bolt that was always thrown away because of the noise from movement, intact mum, and flip-up sights. One thing he brought back home, and was very proud of, was his Ghurka knife.Complete in it's scabbard with the two small knives. I almost took off my finger years ago playing with it, and after that, it was assigned to the attic, along with the ariska. I have them both now, as Dad passed 6 yrs ago.Wonderful knofe, and still RAZOR-SHARP. There's some tape around the wooden handle part, but other than that, perfect.

Got lots of stuff from Dad,Larry. Silk flying escape scarfs with maps on them, medals, ribbons, Nazi helmets, nazi medals, his menu for Christmas dinner from 1943 or '44.It's almost the same as mine from 1971!! Most of the stuff is from the CBI, but he picked up stuff from buddies who served in Europe. I also have a few things from one of my uncles who fought on Mindinao, and during the Liberation of the Phillipines. He saw HEAVY hand-to-hand combat, and just jokes about it now!! I had another uncle who fought in Europe, then went to Korea where he was terribly wounded by WP, and then they wanted him to go to Viet Nam. He said no thanks, and retired...

Atlanta Cutlery has several different Kukri knives in different sizes.
They should be okay. You just have to sharpen them, or pay to have them sharpened. Most are made by Windlass Steelcrafts.

I have been using Windlass swords for years with no problems. I trim the brush in my back yard with an old Windless Viking sword.

NOTE- I am fully aware this is not something you should do as swords are not designed for such abuse. If you don't cut straight in, you can torque, bend or break a blade. I spent years learning how to cut with big blades on soft targets before I started on the tougher stuff.

It is for killing the enemy. Heads will roll and brains will spill with a Khukuri knife. Hack, slash and burn.

Red White &Blue ... this is a fighting knife that, in the process of killing *might* clear brush too ...

... these knives are heavy and the curved blade gives the user some awesome leverage that causes some brutal cutting strength. If I ever ran into someone with one of these that knew how to use it ... I'd show them my best impression of Jesse Owens ... hopeful that they didn't show me theirs.

Like the old joke goes, "Don't come to a gunfight with a knife."

But seriously, they are really cool knives. I might have to get one - thanks!
