Where are all the American favorite made???

I bought a couple of knives from the internet the other days. To name a fews: Buck, Gerbers seem to be my all time favorite. American made (Oregon). I then bought a really nice Gerber hunting knife and found the stamp on it was made in Tiawan! ahhhhh!!

Bought another Buck hunting knife, again made in Tiawan! Gerber claimed full lifetime warranty on their product. I guessed my reasonj of paying the primo price for these knives is because I expecting to be MADE IN USA!

Anybody have any input????

Al

Many things are made overseas now. I know Buck and Gerber still make some of their knives here in America but they're usually only their high end ones now. Expect to pay a premium for those. The majority of their knives are now made overseas if I'm not mistaken. Even "American" companies can't argue against the lure of cheap labor overseas. My father in law's company prides itself on using local labor whenever possible to make their machinery but when it comes to smaller items, its cheaper to make them overseas. It's just how the machine of the global economy works right now. Give China and their like a decade or so to catch up in economy and you'll see more things being made in America again but then also expect the cost of living to go up.

That's whats going on in my head about this. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I hope so at least about the prices and cost of living going up.

The knives I use the most are a large Schrade folder W\guthook and a small fixed-blade Western that is a wicked little knife for skinning. I just bought a skinning\hunting knife made in Mora Sweden that is supposed to be made of excellent carbon steel.

I carry a Benchmade Spike by Ted Boguszewski. It's American made and is a great knife.

It's the peg model. Very fast to get into action though. Sharpest knife I ever had.

Benchmade IMO is the best American made production knives made today. If you want better, buy custom.

As far as i know the schrade has been sold and is being made in a oriental country as well. My dad has an older version and its the best knife hes ever owned but the enw ones are garbage.

I'm a big fan or Spyderco knives... fixed and folders, they rock.

Why buy U.S.A?????????

Personally: I'd rather put a pair of shoes on some American childs feet, than to put just another bowl of rice in front of some foreign stranger.

Buck... Some U.S.A, some china, some japan, some taiwan. The American made stuff will say "BUCK U.S.A" on the box

Case... U.S.A

Gerber... sort through as well. (Many countrys)

Bear and sons... U.S.A

Kershaw... sort through as well (many countrys)

Benchmade... (my favorite) Blue and Black box (class) are U.S.A made, red box (class) are taiwan made.

Shrade, Old timer, western.... China bought all the tooling and put them back on the market about 3 years ago.
