Probably the chinese copy LC52 junk or the old French stuff. Those are the only kinds that I'm familiar with. There was rumored to be some early Privi that was corrosive, but I never had that confirmed.

That's the garbage! More info about it on the CMP forums.

I understand it was a requirement that the ammo NOT use corrosive primers because of the carbine's gas system and the fact it's not easily cleaned or field-serviceable. AFAIK, this Chinese "LC52" is the only corrosive .30 carbine ammo out there. Do a Google search for it, there's some photos on the web comparing the headstamps of real LC52 and the Chicom LC52.

I'll post a couple photos of the headstamp and box, later this week. I'm on a job in Mass and won't be home til Thursday. I pulled a bullet from it when I got it and it's Berdan primed.

The cases on the french ammo are actually slightly shorter. The french ammo was made because the gov. banned military caliber weapons at the time, so the carbines allowed had to have chambers too short for military ammo. They had to manufacture their own ammo for those carbines. They used corrosive primers in their ammo. The ammo WILL work in a standard carbine because it is a tapered case and the taper holds the case far enough back in the chamber to allow it to fire. It is a potential headspace problem waiting to happen. If you have french corrosive ammo, I reccomend that you don't shoot it.

I agree.. I've just got two boxes of it and it'll be sold cheaply at an upcoming gun show.

Question... Is that sarcasm, or is there actually value just because a '62 Universal would have USGI components?

Just wondering because I have a 1st generation (SN 6XXXX) in probably 98% condition (probably no more than 100 rounds through it)...

Early universals can be worth 500 -800 bucks in good shape...

That's what I thought, though dealers will try to get them from you at the standard $300-$350 regardless of SN or condition.

I talked with a local gunsmith to see if he had spare parts on hand, or if I needed to order spares (extractor, etc) online to have around "just in case". He had spares, but said not to worry about it, because unless you shoot garbage ammo and foul up the gas system, the things just don't break. He said the only spares he's ever sold were replacements for what owners lost trying to take them down beyond a basic strip...
