| Yep. They have no hold open device, except for the 30 rounders. You can use 30 rd. followers in the 15 rd. mags though. |

| But keep in mind that as soon as you remove the mag, the bolt will slam shut. |

| well, i dont agree on that... My M1(and its original we all know: inland 1943-3 serial:4889XXX) has a vertical pin(part12) on the slide(part11). the reciever(part2) has a notch on the side of the silde. (see picture for Details) When u pull the slide backward and depress the pin, it will drop in the notch an keep the bolt open! if you pull the open bolt back al little the notch will push the pin up again and the slide can move freely again forward. here is a edited picture from a M1 manual to illustrate what i exactly mean: Mine didnt work when i bought the carabine. The notch was weared out so the pin couldn't get any grip in the notch. But with a good file i made the end of the notch (the end facing forward to the barrel) a bit deeper and more sharp-eged and now it works fine! Hope you guys give some feedback MADMAX |

| That is only to hold the bolt open by depressing the button by hand. It does not automatically hold the bolt open after the last round is fired. If yours does, it is not functioning properly. |

| thats true but what my point was that a M1 carabine DOES have a hold open device(even if it is manual)... Wes said: "Yep. They have no hold open device, except for the 30 rounders. You can use 30 rd. followers in the 15 rd. mags though." that is not true, it has another (manual) hold open device other then the 30 round followers. my carabine is in perfect state: metalworks is about 98%, only verry littlebit of rust on the gaspiston, and the coatestock is in verry proper order. | While you are correct that there is a manual hold open, the question dealt with automatic hold open, which is provided by the follower on the 30 round mag. When you remove the mag, the bolt will slam shut. In order to engage the manual hold open, the bolt must be pulled back further and the slide stop depressed. A manual stop is quite different from an automatic stop......

| BTW Mad Max....?Where did you find that parts diagram? It is the most mixed up carbine I've ever seen! That thing illustrates parts that running from the very earliest carbines to mid 45 production!
