| I just picked up the newer IAI, using Israeli parts but assembled in Texas on new receivers. Going to put it thru it's paces this weekend. It ain't GI, but it's better priced than the GI models around my area - M1 Carbines are going thru the roof! My buddy has a Plainfield - again GI parts on a civilian-market receiver. We wanted "shooters", rather than collector's pieces. Most of what I see at the gunshows here are Inlands and Winchesters. A local shop has two Universals, but I've heard negative things about them so have steered clear.

| Have S.G., S'G', Inland, Winchester and am beginning to get a decent number of the commerical guns. None are untouched factory originals. A few have late features. I also dabble in Carbine repair. I even have an Iver Johnson with a factory barrel in an ultra rare .30 Carbine case with a .257 bullet which I have now named the .257 DRE. Both early, mid and late Universals, early and late IJ, Alpine, National Ordnance, Federal Ordnance, EFM, Erma in .22 cal, IJ/Erma in .22 cal. I have two barreled receivers in .22 cal with unfinished receivers. Both are less than 50% but the barrels are inplace ready to finish the mill work. Marlin 99M1 in .22 cal. Anyone else looking at the commerical guns. Any one have any commerical Carbines for sale??? Thirty different companies made them. Where are they? |

| Well, I picked up the three last missing ones, RockOla, QHMC and Std Prod. Now I have at least one of each make and multiples in several. I don't think I'll be selling them off again for a while. Its getting too hard to replace them....and too expensive too!

| I've got 2 Winchesters, 1 1 mil early & 1 5 mil late which came thru NRA. 2 inlands - 1 is an M1A1, a Std Prod and a Rock Ola. Seems like I have an underwood also? These never get shot. My shooter is a klunky inland that cost me about $80 - 10 years ago. Sarge

| Its interesting to see how many guys never shoot their "collector" carbines. Mine all go to the range from time to time. I may be risking them, but they were built to be shot. I just use moderate handloads. I may enjoy shooting them, but I also don't see any point in abusing them.

| BattlerifleG3 stated that they had saved a friends Universal by replacing a cracked cast trigger housing with an M2 trigger group. I have an older production Universal that has had exactly 20 rounds fired through it that my Dad just gave me. Will all of the USGI M1/M2 trigger housings fit older Universals? I would like to eventually replace the cast one. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | I'm not sure, I was told on this forum myself. It is a little bit loose. My suggestion is to use what you have as long as it works. The part that broke wasn't critical to safety, just feeding. I'm not sure if the source we got the trigger guard from still has them or not.

| Thanks Battle. Fulton Armory has them also. I just didn't know if they would fit my Universal. I'll call them and post whatever I find out. |
