GunGeek's paratrooper model is a Universal, and its mag wel cracked. He ordered an M2 trigger housing from Centerfire, and we installed it successfully. If you find a Universal cheap enough, they are improveable and parts are out there.

the universals from the 60's are ok they were all GI except for the receiver. Iver Johsnons were made with UNIparts. the best of the copies, were made by a NJ company whoose name escapes me.

NRAJOE I have also been looking at them lately. Does anyone have an opinion on the IMIs? The stock on these are not very nice, but the metal looks good. The prices on the internet for a GI carbine are high and you never know what you are getting. It could be one of the welded ones. I cannot find a good GI in a gunshop. Indy |

The IAI Carbine has been getting mixed reviews, but I like mine. The Plainfields are good commercial models too. The true GI models are just too pricey around here.

NRAJOE, No doubt! I've got a Korean marked M1 built by Underwood (bbl and receiver) appraised at 850.00. The stock is pretty beat up, and from the looks of her I think I would pay only about 200.00 but sue to the historical value it jumps way up. I'm suprised really. I've got it up for auction, but no sucessful bids yet. I doubt you want to sepnd that much but I'd take 675.00 for it with extra clips and ammo.

Oh I know. And really the new one only run around about 350-400. I'm just always amazed how weapons with just a little history behind them will jack the cost up.

| IF YOU WANT REAL GI
just keep looking a all the pawnshops, and newspaper ads, and estate auctions. you may get a deal that way. but i too believe those with deep pockets and little sense have driven up the prices of them beyond reality. bet theres a sheet load of them waiting to come back, if the import laws change.

I PICKED UP A UNIVERSAL, IN GOOD SHAPE, AT A FLA. GUN SHOW, FOR ABOUT $200., IT'S A DECENT SHOOTER, ESPECIALLY WITH HANDLOADS. FRED WAHL (HONCHO)

| M-1 Carbine
I have an M-1 Carbine, one of two my father and i got some 30 years ago. It's marked "inland div w/ a number under the back sight. On the front of the reciever it has U.S.CARBINE CAL. 30 M1. I think it's a real government issue M-1. Can anyone here tell me if it is? And what it might be worth? I just use it for deer hunting. And my brother has my dad's now and the thirty round clips that were with them, i have a couple 15 round clips. I love this little guy for hunting, so easy to carry and light. Any help will be appreciated. |

Its impossible to give you any accurate estimate of value without a lot more information. To start with, is it import marked? (usually on the barrel[side or bottom]) Approximate serial number? Features (adjustable sight? bayonet lug? rotating safety?) To evaluate it, we need to know what features it has vs what features it should have if original. That will only give us a ballpark figure. To fully evaluate it we would need to know all parts types and markings as well as finish on all major parts. It could from the limited info you gave us, be valued from $350-$1500. That is a pretty wide spread.
