| Would like to have some help getting an M1 Hey yall. I recently became interested in the M1 carbine. I would like to have one because they look really nice/light/handy. I was at first looking to the newly manufactered A-O, but they are retailed for $640 bucks, thats a bit out of my price range. Are the IAI carbines good/cheap? Also, I was trying to find the link to the IAI website, but couldnt, does anyone have it? Thanks and God Bless!! |

| Hey yall, what would be the best to get? IAI or Auto-Ordnance? They both seem good, but IAI seems to have more of a deal. |

| For that kind of money you can still find USGI imports in fairly decent condition. I was trying to sell a Winchester on GB for $650 but got no takers. Go figure!

| Georgian, I really like my little IAI Carbine (about $400 at a gunshow) but still would like to luck up on a decent GI model one day. Down here, even a dogged out GI Carbine brings $650 to start. You'd think they were silver plated or sumthin'! A good clone gives you the look and feel, and all the shooting fun of the real thing though.

| The Winchester sold about a week ago for $600. The guy is as happy as a lark with it. It was all inchester and all correct for the serial number. I had it on GB for a couple of weeks and couldn't get anyone to bid so I sold it to a guy on battlerifles.

| I recently aquired a US Surplus Winchester M1 Carbine from WWII for 550 bucks and I'd say it was a worthwhile investment. The thing is lightweight, moderately powerful and very easy to operate. Sides I like the fact you can mount the ammo pouch on the butt of the gun with a sling. |

| At that price, I assume it is a mixed parts winchester. It is still an excellent price. Welcome to the sickness. Now that you have one, its like potato chips. Good luck NOT getting another! There is no cure, only periodic treatments! *LOL* :insane:

| Well probably so but it's !!!! near impossible to get a vintage one that hasn't had at least one thing replaced on it. The serial number is also fairly early so I'm guessing mine is from around 1941-42. |

| post the approximate serial number and I'll give you an approximate date. Late 42 would be the earliest. None were made in 41 or early 42 by Winchester except for pilot and tool room models and I really doubt that you have one of those.

| K here goes... 1200925. Also, it doesn't have any Winchester or company markings on it but when the dealer called Winchester and read them the serial # they confirmed it was a Winchester. |

| Its not as early as you think. It is around Aug of 43 that it was built. I'm guessing that it has an adjustable rear sight on it. The winchester name will be found under the rear of the sight. By that time, Winchester wasn't dating its barrels any more. There may be a very faint W stamped into the top of the barrel about 3 inches back from the muzzle. If there is a Winchester proof mark (an intertwined WP in an oval) it will be found under the barrel band. In other words, the Winchester markings are probably there, but they are in locations that would make them very difficult to see.

| Wow you're right, I looked under the adjustable sights and there it is.. Winchester written right across it, I didn't find the one under the barrel though. Thanks for the info. |
