ok guys, Iv'e always been a pistol guy, but I've been looking at a M1 Carbine at a local gun store and I think I've been smitten. I just don't want to get taken. I know they have had it for a loooong time. Asking $795. I think it's GI. Smith- Corona # 2077722 with a Marlin Barrel. The stock is just dinged enough to show it's been around, but no cracks or big dings. Nice finish. The stock has a "P" stamped on it under the grip area. What do ya'll think? thanks. |

Does it look like this: Check out the link for the 03-A3 30-06 rifle. This might give you a starting place for the gun's value. Ox ----------- http://www.impactguns.com/store/smit...1903_a3_2.html

Are you sure it is a M1 cabine? Sounds more like a Springfield. DANA Last edited by DANA; 01-06-2005 at 04:01 PM. |

An early 2MM SN in an M1 Carbine would correspond with a Carbine made by Standard Products Company, Port Clinton, Ohio. Standard Products did not make their own barrels, rather, they used those made by other contractors, including the likes of Underwood, Rock-Ola and Marlin. Smith-Corona did not manufacture M1 Carbines. I would estimate that the typical, non-import, USGI 'reworked' Carbine (with an adjustible rear sight, bayonet lug, flip safety, etc.) would normally sell more in the area of $500-$600 or so---possibly more if it is in exceptional condition. $795 seems to be on the high side IMHO. Check past auctions on the likes of GunBroker, AuctionArms, GunsAmerica, etc., for some comparative pricing. Last edited by Ranger; 01-06-2005 at 07:44 PM. |

I have to agree with Ranger. $600-$650 Tops and only in very nice condition and not import marked. The serial number as Ranger said indicates Standard Products and the barrel maker is consistent with that. It is probably an original barrel.
