Question Who Will Correctly Restore the Finish ??

After several years of parts hunting I am just a magazine catch away from having all the correct parts for the restoration of my Sagninaw (SG) carbine #3,263,xxx. I started with a good receiver and an import stamped barrel which I removed and replaced with a nice Inland barrel of the correct vintage. I have now spent about 3 times what it would have cost to buy someone else's restoration but I had a blast hunting the parts down and feel good about bringing them all back together into one weapon.

Anyway, here's my question. The receiver had been reparked, the finish on the barrel looks original but is well worn, the trigger housing is reparked, and all of the rest of the pieces and parts are in various conditions in terms of their finish. Some are correctly blued but worn, others are parkerized even if they should not be. The handguard is primo, the stock has the original SG in the large square and cartouche with the usual string of incomprehensible numbers in the sling well. The stock itself is obviously used with the usual dents and scratches but does not appear to have been used to pry open doors, dig foxholes, or club enemy combatants to death. It's been reoiled goodness knows how many times but does not appear to have been sanded, thank goodness.

I would like complete the restoration by having the carbine refinished in accordance with the wartime specs but have so far not been able to locate the right place to have it done. I have found the places that will simply take the carbine, strip it, and parkerize it, but that is not what I'm after. Can anyone help me out??

By the way, I know that there is kind of a friendly (sometimes not-so-friendly) debate between the "purists" and the "shooters" and that some folks think that guys like me have a screw or two that need to be retourqued. Maybe so, but as much as I enjoy shooting the snot out of my re-imported Quality Hardware and Inland carbines, this project has been big fun. Different strokes for different folks. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. :cheer: Clay

Jerry, thanks for the welcome and thanks for the info. I spoke with the folks you recommended and they were quite accomodating. Unfortunately, the gent with whom I spoke does not do any bluing but he gave me the name of an outfit in California, B.J. Bluing in Santee CA to do the bluing while I send the parkerizing to Tenn. Hope this works. Thanks again. Clay
