Smile Keep & Love it...

Hi.Those M1Universal Carbine are similar to those of the USGI M1 Carbine in appearance but when it comes to performance M1 Universal Carbine shoots a tight group of shots than that of the USGI M1 Carbine.Unfortunately, they are not interchangable in parts. I have owned an Inland GM Carbine in the Philippines it was a piece of history given to me by late grandfather who was then a underground guerilla fighting against the japanese during the dark days of WWII. Hundred times i made a sight adjustment still the shots are far from tight grouping the barrel is straight the sights are new.Perhaps the M1 Universal Carbine still the best for tight shot grouping.Keep and love your M1 Universal Carbine. For me M1 Carbines are mans best friend.

Don't underestimate the military carbine. The one you shot/shoot may have a worn muzzle. If it is counterbored for a quarter inch, it should restore much of the original accuracy. Muzzle wear from cleaning often causes deteriorated accuracy in carbines.

I've picked up a couple off eBay...but your best place might be Fulton-Armory or Numrich.

The one Universal that's fit to own is the stainless Universal. The quality is really good and the accuracy is great! Check out this informative website for all things universal
Universal M1 Carbine Info
I have one and after thousands of rounds, there have been no ftf, or fte. The accuracy has been way better than average!

Feed and Jam issues

My universal has a feed problem, it jams up 99% of the time, I have tried different mags and ammo, still can't cure the thing.

Delta, some 2nd and 3rd generation Universals are just hard to work with. You have to determine is it a feed problem, or an ejection/extraction problem. You may want to see if you can polish the feed ramps if it jams often on feeding. Sometimes one can alter the angle of the trigger guard alittle if you have some play. What kind of problems?

Polish the feed ramp. Mine would only feed hard ball but after polishing the ramp it feeds anything.

Rebel you are a lucky man to have a fine Universal like you do. I wish I could find one that shot as well as yours does.

Sounds about right. 30 years ago there were a couple of Universal M1 carbines that got sold back and forth on the military base I was on, fifty bucks was the standard price for each new owner since they did nothing but jam and couldn't hit an elephant at 10 paces . I can't believe what they're going for today.

Universal M1 Carbine's aren't for shooting. They're for selling.....to people you hope you never see again.

Might I ask what one uses ( it's a stone of some sorts isn;t it?) ( and if so, is there a specific kind and or shaped stone?) to properly polish a feed ramp and also what the best way to polish one is? And by best way I mean method or motion or direction or however???

Try fine crocus cloth, not a stone. Or use a dremel with a small polishing wheel.

A crocus cloth should work. The stone GlockMeister
could be talking about may be a Arkansas. They are
available in a few different grits. I have a finishing
stone.

My dad bought it new in 69. I shot no telling how many thousands of rounds of milsurp ammo out of it when I was a kid. It's accurate and dependable, even with 30 round mags. This isn't the best pic in the world but you can tell it's had heavy use and has never been a safe queen or wall flower. It may break the next time I shoot it but even if it does it was well worth the 89.00 my dad paid for it.

I don't know if anyone makes an M-1 Carbine that's any good, but the Universals are not worth having. Shun them.

edit: This was 25+ years ago, when you could get them for $100 or so , perhaps they're better now.
You felt SOILED? Dude, that's just sick.

Universal 256 Ferret

I am thinking about locating and buying a Universal carbine in cal. 256 ferret Preferably one that comes with the factory scope mount. My question is do we know what serial number range these carbines fall into? My concern is if they fall into a range where quality was less desireable due to complications. Also do we know if they will only feed and shoot the 60 grain heads ?

I just found this forum last night while trying to find some information about a Universal .30 cal M1 Carbine I own. The serial number is 20xxxx. I bought this for $100 from a retired neighbor a few years back when they decided to move. The gun is in perfect conditon and came with the standard clip and two 30 rd. clips. It is a sweet shooting gun and very accurate at 100 yards with the iron sites.

I am trying to get more information on the gun and what it might be worth for our insurance. Can anyone give me more information about it or sites where I can find more info? Thanks in advance.
