| First. Is it an older model that looks just like the GI Carbine or a newer model with two springs and an open operating slide where you can see the bolt lug move. Try a stripped GI bolt. Have your headspace gauges on hand. Insert GO gauge. If closes, OK. Insert NO GO. Try to close guage. If it don;t close your OK. If it closes, try the field reject gauge. If it closes, get new bolt and start over. Your objective is a bolt that will close on the GO and not close on the NO GO. Keep this up until you find one that meets the guage. On a commerical Carbine, I advise to check the field reject gauge test every 500 rounds. Commerical guns were not made to deal with the sustained firing that a combat weapon must endure. 500 rounds could be a lifetime of shooting for a Universal. |

| I have to agree with Landtrain. IF it is an early one, the gi bolt should work. If it is a late 2 spring model you would be best off trying Gun Parts Corp. for a replacement. GI parts do not fit the late models. And ALWAYS check headspace when you replace bolts or barrels.

| Gun shows are awash in carbine parts! As said above, replacing a bolt requires checking with the headspace gauges but they might have the gauges for sale or check it for you. |
