Wonderful Little Rifle

My Pop and I shared ownership of a M1 Carbine many years ago. I don't remember details like make, but he purchased it through the County Sheriff's department where he was a deputy. It might even have been CMP. I do recall enjoying shooting it. This was the mid 70's.

I took my newly acquired IBM M1 Carbine to the range on Monday. I haven't fired one since I was a teenager.

What a wonderful little rifle! Knowing the intended purpose(...replacing the 1911 .45 automatic), I imagine it saved a lot of lives. It takes some talent and practice to hit a man-sized target at 50 to 100 yards with a handgun. But, it was quite easy to accomplish this shot with the little carbine. Yes, there were complaints about stopping power, but I'm sure a lot of that had to do with people trying to use them out of their intended envelope of operation. i.e. At a range more suited to a Garand.

I highly recommend picking up one of these little beauties before they're all gone!!!

I am very luck to have a buddy that is a Purdue graduate. He belongs to a club near Lafayette, not sure of the name, but it is a beautiful facility. It has 100/50/25 yard rifle range. It has three pistol ranges...one with knock down targets(...which you can reset by means of a pull rope), one with moving targets hanging from pully/rope. There's a 100 to 300 yard rifle range and a clay pigeon/trap/skeet range. I never turn down and invite there.

I also own 5 wooded acres in southern Indiana that ends in a high bluff. I shoot there occasionally, but it is a pain dragging rifle cases and targets in and out of the property.

Many years ago, I used the range at Camp Attabury, but it was unsupervised and the various levels of safety(...or lack there of) of the other shooters made me very nervous and i stopped going. Now, I hear they have refurbished the range, are charging a nominal fee and have supervision. I've considered giving it another chance. It is very close to where I live. Call me a crummidgeon, but I realy don't like shooting with other people around.

No kidding!!! I paid a tick more than that for my IBM. And it has been through the post WWII rebuild like most. That Inland looks awfully original.

BUT, I still love my IBM and don't regret splurging at all. I'd forgotten until Memorial Day exactly how much fun they are to shoot.

I was plinking and not really checking accuracy on Monday. Next time I'll bench shoot 50 and 100 yards and report back.

T-J... I wished I knew who made the one at that sale, I do remembert U.S Goverment on it and a switch to fire full auto.
The auctioneer told the crowd this is own you were going to sell it, you better do the paper work or they'll put you under the jail.
My wife and I left so I didn't see who bought it, but I had friends there that told me it went for 750 dollars. We went to the auction to maybe buy it for our son, he was 13 or 14 years old, when I saw it was full auto capable we left. I wish to this day I'd bought it...A.H

Joker I have a really nice IBM that at 25 yards will shoot the eyebrows off a fly. Out of the 5 carbines I have that one is just right on the money.
