WTK: New IBM Carbine...Which parts are original

Purchased a very nice looking IBM M1 Carbine this week. I'm hoping to find out which markings are original IBM. Is there a webpage with this type of information?

Markings on the Rifle.
Receiver: IBM Corp
Barrel: IBM Corp, with P stamped in the center of barrel
Bolt: AO B
Bolt Carrier: AC B
Front Sight: SI B
Rear Sight: H stamped inside of some sort of spade or symbol
Magazine: SY-B
STOCK: LW-B stamped by rear sling attachment. RIA EB in square box on left side. Cross Cannons stamped on right side. Flaming Bomb Stamped behind rear tang.
Handguard: JL B stamped inside
Safety Selector: EP B
Magazine Release: EP B
Trigger Group Frame: BE-B
Hammer: AM B
Sear: SW-B
Trigger: JU

Thanks for any info...

Sounds like it is pretty much correct. The slide should be AOB not ACB. The rear sight is an H in a shield. I don't know if that is correct since I have no idea when your carbine was built without the serial number. And is the sight milled or stamped? The trigger is an Underwood, but don't replace it. Underwood sent IBM 37,500 triggers total during WWII so it could very well be correct.

Thank you for the wonderful info. All of the codes seem to keep a pattern except for the trigger...I'll be sure to keep the trigger in place though.

The carbine has a stamped rear sight and the serial number is 3,929,xxx. Judging from condition I would not be surprised if the sight is incorrect. This carbine is in fantastic condition however the rear sight has much more wear than any other part of the rifle.

Thank you again for the information. I am still new to M1 Carbines and I have not had time to track down a decent book

Your carbine was one of the later IBMs built around feb of 44. It is possible that the rear sight could be original as that type was just being introduced into service at that time. Although it is unlikely that it is original, I still wouldn't replace it on the possibility that it is correct. You didn't mention the barrel band. I'm guessing that it is a type 2 band, wide and without a bayonet lug.

Yes it's a wide band with no lug. Are there any codes on the bands. I see two vertical lines on the left of the band side but I'm not sure if it is a factory stamp or just a mark.

That is a correct IBM marking. The bands were unmarked, // or/. Sounds like you got a real winner!
