First M-1

Thanks for the welcome, gents!
I took the 'new' carbine down, (the AGI video came with it!) and find only the one serial number on the rifle, under the sight. There's an upper case 'L' on the back end of the barrel, and it's stamped as a .30 caliber carbine there, also. There's nothing up by the front sight. The interesting thing other than a cartouche on the right side of the stock is an 'l 89' on the bottom of the stock under the 'pistol grip' section. (Not sure what to call it.) I'm guessing that's a refurbishment code.
The previous owner told me it was rebuilt at one time, but he had to replace a broken extractor, and said he could get a 4 to 5 inch pattern at 200 yards offhand. I suspect some amount of embellishment, since he's only a couple years younger than me, and I'm 61. A hundred yards, maybe.
The Arminius is for the odd raccoon or whatever comes in the cat door while the 'guard cat' is busy sleeping.
CCW is either a S&W M&P 360 in .357 or a Sig 239 in .40 caliber.
Don't believe everything you think.

That bolt tool is worth the cost. My carbines functioned very well and actually I took the bolt apart to see how the bolt tool worked...glad I did. What I found in the springs was a recipe for failure; really gunked up.
When you get the tool and use it, be very careful and make sure the extractor plunger tab is seated properly before you start to tighten the thumbscrew or you could break the tab. There are two tabs on the tool, one is solid the other is split. AND for God's sake keep a good hold whenyou back off the thumb screw after removing the extractor...that spring will thow the itty-bitty plunger a long distance and it will be hell finding it...trust me on this point...lol

Hey Drifter, you never can tell. 4-5 inches at 200 is a definate could be, if you can see that far...lol
Heck at our age (I'm 62) 300 is pushing it. I'm interested in hearing how she shoots.
May I suggest you read the articles for the carbine that are on the CMP site, they give some good tips for accuracy. Good reading for all of us; novice or not.

Smile Reading~

Thanks for the tip on reading material. We're supposed to get snow in a day or two, and I usually get desperate for something to read after a day.
At 200 yards, if I can see it I can usually hit it. the first part is critical, however!

Mosineer, When you get the bolt tool use it carefully when you apply the plunger tang to the extractor pin spring. If it's not seated properly and you apply the screw to hard, you could break the tang. You will know when you get it seated correctly by the ease of the screw activation. BUT be real careful when you release the tension on the extractor pin spring...that little guy will send the pin flying if you don't cover it well...took me about 15 minutes to find the pin in my carpet...lol
The bolt tool won't be used alot but it sure is worth the investment...it falls into a best buy category.

Bravo, what kind of feeding problems are you experiencing? Type ammo? 15 or 30 round magazine?

Drifter,
Don't fret any about the carbine being a 'rebuild'. These little guys are 60+ years old. Most were modified within the first year of the war and very few are original in any sense of the word. I have a Rock-ola that hung on a showboard for nearly 40 years and is as original as original can be and it has features that indicate mods to it. I bought it because I liked it...and it shoots great. Heck, now if someone could figure out how to rebuild my sixty-two years old carcass so I'd have another 60 years to shoot.
Now, Arminius is a name I haven't heard since the 1960's...got pics? How's it shoot? That's a 7 shot revolver if I'm not mistaken.

Rebuilt~

I wasn't too worried about the fact that it's rebuilt, but I'm impressed that it has only one serial number. I figured that probably with a mix-n-match system there could be several different numbers on it. I'm the third owner, so that might be the answer since the other two were long time owners it might not have been a factory type rebuild.
The Arminius is 8 rounds. I'm not having much luck getting a clear close picture, but when I figure it out I'll post one. I remember shooting it with my Dad when I was a teenager, but it spent most of it's time on the closet shelf.
Re: getting personally rebuilt! I got a new hip joint two years ago and I'll tell you if you need that or something like it, just do it. I no longer need any of the joint pain remedies I used to take, for anything.
Life without pain is great!
