Century or CMP?
Century as some Carbines for sale, and they're less money than what CMP is getting..
So.... Am I better off saving a few bucks with a Century gun, or spending the extra amount for a CMP gun??

I think you already know what my answer to this one will be.
Definitely CMP! Reasons: 1. CMP will have no import stamp 2. I have read that the Century carbines are rough. (some people have found them at big 5 (for 1K bucks!!!) and they came from century. I'll try to find a link to that stuff. 3. You won't save much because you will have to have it transfered to an 01 dealer, which will add fees and stuff. I don't know why those aren't listed on the Century C&R list. 4. CMP customer service rocks! Century, not so much. 5. Right now you can get a CMP rack grade for 419, I believe. They are supposed to be in good shape, but as always it's kind of luck of the draw. Check out the CMP forum for info on the rackers. There you go. Hope that helps. PS if you go the CMP rack grade route, you'd better HURRRRY! Another PS I don't think the prices on the other manufacturers are that great. For example they have Winnies listed for 700. Those went on sale (today) for 675 from CMP. I think those will go pretty fast.

The Rack Grades are $419 for the Inlands and $479 for the Underwoods.. I think I'll just grab an Inland while the getting's good.. I called my fiance to see if she had her Notary Stamp handy, and of course she wanted to know why.. I told her I needed her to notarize another gun from CMP, and she said "That figures.".. ![]() Now to see if my H & R Garand arrives before the Inland Carbine.. The RACE IS ON!!!! After checking out your links, I'm 100% sure I'm going with the CMP gun.. Although that SA Service Grade Garand I got from them a couple weeks ago was a pile of junk.. ![]() Between the new wood, excellent finish, and very close to matching serial numbers throughout (except for the barrel), and the fact that yesterday I shot full clip of ammo at a 4" target, at 100 yards, and all 8 were within 4".. How DARE they send me a gun like that!!! ![]() Thanks again for the info!!! I think you saved me some serious hassle, and I'm REALLY glad I tossed this post up.. I think it's time for a donation to Gun and Game Forums!!! ![]()

I was just at CMP the rack grades were definitely in better cosmetic condition than the service grades on the shelves at Anniston. I am with 22 you can't go wrong with the CMP order plus you get the nice part of having it shipped directly too you.

Letter mailed..
And the race is on!!! Which gun will arrive to me first?!?!? Will it be the H&R Service Grade Garand, ordered 2 weeks ago, or will it be the Inland M1 Carbine, envelope mailed today!! Tune in next time for another delightful tale of Paper and the CMP!!! ![]()

A dealer at the local gun show last saturday had a bunch of Century Inlands and underwoods. He said they were from Israel. They all looked in fairly good condition if you could overlook the deeply stamped serial #'s on the stock. One Inland was a very low # and had a Rockola stock. Talked to a fella there who was waiting to pay for two he selected and he gauged the barrels at 1 and under 1. Appears Century may have some good and some bad offerings. ????? The price on these at the show was $550. Very tempting. Think I would have bought one if I didn't already have a RG ordered from CMP.
