| Yesterday I was browsing through a local pawn shop when I spotted an old M1 carbine sitting up on the shelf. I have always wanted an M1 after shooting my friends a couple years ago but had never really tried to buy one because of the price. This one was marked for $329 and the clerk said he would give it to me for $250. Now I am not an expert at military firearms but I know a deal when I see one and without hesitation I bought it. At the time I had no idea what to look for as far as serial numbners, manufactures, and quality were concerned but it looke in pretty decent shape. After briefly researching the M1 I found that mine was made in December 1942 because of 12 / 42 stamped on the end of the barrell with a bomb insignia and it was made in the Saginaw factory and has a serial number of 3363069. Does anyone else know anymore about this gun or if it was used in combat etc. and what it is worth. Thanks |

| Your rifle was made by Saginaw Gear in mid to late 1943. You need a better description or some pictures to help you ID the carbine as correct or to place a value on it. I'd say if it is in average rebuilt condition, maybe $600. |

| I agree with Dookie on when the carbine was made. The Barrel is a replacement. It sounds like an Underwood barrel. Saginaw SG would have used one of their own barrels. Value could be anywhere from $450 up to $600. We need a complete description and if possible pictures.

| Even if it didn't have a barrel it is worth much more than you paid. "Ya Done Good Son!" Look to see if there is a period or an apostophe between the SG. S.G. or S'G'. General Motors gun plants produced useable firearms and sometimes, serial numbers and receiver markings didn't always go with the flow. Get the most recent Ruth and Duff publications for the most current data. If you have any money left over from the purchase, buy War Baby and War Baby Comes Home. When you get time to tear it down send us a list of all its internal parts. You will need a bolt tool to strip the bolt but the rest come out prety easy. Remember, this is a combat weapon made for field use not collectors. |
