| Stock Identification Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and admittedly a rank amatuer on M1 carbines. Jumped the gun and bought a stock from What a country and now I need to know what I have. It's obviously a Winchester, there is a clear 'W' stamped inside the inletting ahead of the trigger assembly. on the right side of the stock is a very fine stamping, probably because it's been sanded in the past, that reads WRA and under that GHD. A little farther forward is a deeper stamping in a box that reads RIA and below it EB. The buttplate appears to be and Underwood. Anyone, anyone? |

| Is the butt plate diamonds? Count the number per inch. Early Inlands had 11 diamonds per inch. Underwoods have 13 per inch.

| WRA = Winchester Repeating Arms, so the stock is Winchester. GHD is the military inspector in charge of overseeing production (Guy H. Drewry). RIA stands for Rock Island Armory, so the stock was probably refurbished after WWII. EB probably represents the military inspector overseeing the arsenal refurbishment. Finding other parts, such as an Inland butt plate is common on rebuilt carbines. They salvaged whatever parts were still useable at the end of WWII. They put these into bins mixed with parts from various manufacturers. When reassembling the refurbished rifles, they paid no attention to using parts from the same manufacturer -- very inconsiderate to us collectors. |

| EB is Elmer Bjorke an inspector at Rock Island Arsenal, not Rock Island Armory. That is a commercial company.
