Picked up an IBM Carbine

Found this site while browsing for information on the Carbine I just picked up. There seems to be loads of good info and discussion.

This is what I have without disassembly:
receiver: IBM Corp - 3675
Adj. rear sight stamped I.R. CO on right side, no other numbers
Barrel stamped IBM Corp - 9 -43, there is also a flamming bomb stamped below the IBM stamp.
Front sight has a P stamped near the back edge of the sight.
Small barrel band w/ small sling loop, AI stamped on right side of band.
Stock is stamped with a 2 in the sling cut out, also see a circle with what appears to be a backwards k or an h stamped inside the circle. The stock also has an N stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip and has a stamped steel butt plate.
The mag release has an M stamped on it with a smaller AD above.
There is an N stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard near the back.
The safety has an N stamped on it.

Any information anyone could pass along will be appreciated as I have just begun to research.

There's a lot of folks here who know details, but that sounds like a nice early IBM.

Dan, Check out the CMP site. Go to Sales--Carbine and there are several articles available. One has information on markings. All of the articles will provide some good knowledge.

Your carbine was made in September of 43 which matches the barrel date. That's the best news. Sounds like you have a type 1 or 2 NPM trigger housing but pics are needed for a precise ID. Double check the safety, are you sure it doesn't say IN which would also be NPM. Is the barrel band type 1 or type 2? If it's a type 1 band then marked AI is more than likely a type 3 band that has been cut down to look like a type 1. IRCO sight is a type 3 stamped made by International Register.

Jits, an N marked safety is more likely a lever type rotary than a push button. Stock is an M2 possibly made by OKay industries, but the jury is still out on that. Front sight is an Inland. And the N on the pistol grip butt is an inspection mark.

Jimb, You are right , the safety is a lever type rotary, thanks for the info. I guess from the info. gathered thus far, this is what you call a mixmaster???

The barrel band is a type 3 with no modifications. I will post photos as soon as I figure out how. Thanks for the info. I am becoming more and more interested.

Rather than call it a mixmaster, I prefer to call them arsenal rebuilds. And yes, it is.

I picked up some UMC ammo and ran a couple clips through it. No problems other than I'll have to sight it in better. I really like the way it shoots. I will now strip and clean it and record the part numbers that I can locate. Does any one have any thoughts on my trying to rebuild the carbine with the parts that IBM would have used when it was made?

Arsenal rebuilds are very collectable too. Remember, whatever you decide to do you have a real nice carbine there.

Will be costly and wont be a original rifle, just a put together. You have to decide for yourself if its worth it. Your rifle has history as is being a arsenal rebuild. Once you start swapping parts you take that history away . Just my opinion

From the Boss...
Using the G&G Attachment method (easiest):
1. Be sure you are logged into gunandgame.com. If you need to, register!
2. Instead of using the quick reply feature, press the advance button.
3. Near the bottom of the new page t hat is loaded is an option that says "Attachments". Click on it
4. A new box will pop up, click browse.
5. Locate the image you want to upload. click ok.
6. Click upload.
7. Repeat step 5 again as needed.
8. Click done.
9. The box should close, and you can press post reply.
10. Done

I think I've got it!!! These photos are not very good but I'm learning.
