Is this an M1 Carbine?

What do you think - is this an M1 Carbine or a copy - like the Erma Werke .22LR?

It's not a great angle and I'm being deceived by the lack of the magazine. The mag well opening looks small, but then the .30 carbine isn't a huge round.

What does everyone else think?

I think it is an M1 carbine. I don't believe the Ermas had a stock oiler, and that type operating rod. I can't see the safety though which should be visable. All the other parts and the way they are assembled make me think it is a GI

That's the only picture. This rifle is going on the auction block in a couple weeks, and if it's a real M1 Carbine I'll definitely be there!

This was the only picture of it on the website. I'm hoping it'll go cheap - the rest of the stuff is old shop tools, welders, etc. Not too many firearms. Sometimes that means people won't bid much on the firearms, but you never can tell.

It appears to be an M1 carbine. The magazine well has the indent on the leading side to accomodate the seam of the carbine magazine. The Erma had a step type magazine with the top that inserted into the 22lr is small with the lower part stepped larger to give it a carbine look.
Good luck bidding on it.

Thanks guys! I've called the auction house to get some more info - at least a one line listing of items, but they won't answer the phone!

I'll have to check it out the day of the auction. We shall see...

If they won't give you more data on the carbine, be very leery. They should be willing to provide make, serial number, included accessories, you as a bidder have the right to that information.
