New never fired USGI CArbine?

Have you guys seen this on Gunbroker?

You think it's legit? Seems like the price is way too low for a "Museum Piece"

GunBroker.com guns: New Unfired I.B.M. U.S. M1 Carbine Museum Gun 1944 (item: 104324663 ends: Jul-22-08 05:55:56 PM)

Could be legit but

this morning's bid price is nearly $3k which is more that I would ever pay for one of them.

I notice they dont show the chamber or bolt face. Somebody sure held that rifle a lot. You can see the oil/dirt stain on the neck of the stock.

I guess it COULD have a bayo lug on it if it was made in 44. JimB would know Im sure.

So thats what an unissued carbine's wood loooks like?

That's what I was thinking - I thought the bayonet lugs were added after the war.

The bayo lug, rear sight and rotary safety are not original. These are late features.

My $650 Inland looks just as good. It's got all Inland parts with the exception of the late features. It's a tack driver at 100yds.

The book I have says "no Type 3 bands are known to have been used by IBM".

Still ... That sure is a nice rifle!!!

Where do I start?I'll just list the things that are OBVIOUSLY wrong. Looks like a Winchester stock. Milled rear sights were never put on AO subcontract carbines except during rebuilds. IBM didn't use M2 mag catches nor lever type safeties. The carbine has been refinished. IBM barrels were always a very light gray color. IBM never got around to using type 3 barrel bands. It is definately an arsenal rebuilt carbine. Not worth anywhere near that kind of money.

I agree with you all.
The ad states he has a BOS from a dealer verifying the 1996-97 purchase from the Presidio...that doesn't mean much to the value of the gun but is probably a selling point to the buyer. Like I say a BOS from the dealer means nothing...now a BOS from the Presidio may be worth a few dollars more. I foresee a very very disappointed buyer in the near future when he realizes he's been had.
Jimb2, that rear sight doesn't look like a milled sight to me, it looks stamped.
In reality, I doubt everything the seller is advertising. It is doubtful the museum at the Presido would be allowed to liquidate any of it's Army owned displays. The military is quarky that way.

IN THE LATE 60'S, I lived in Detroit,Mi., and after one of our shtf episodes I bought an M1 carbine and 1000 rds. of Winchester soft points, and a tin of G.I.ammo thru the DCM, it is a Saginaw stg. complete w/leather handled bayonet, sling, and oiler, and five 30 rd. mags and pouch, the box has been lost through the years, and I have only fired fifty rds through it, the stock is marked with crossed cannons, and marked RIA, I don't know how to show pictures, but have a few. sn#3337148, I do not know if it is a rebuild or new, does anyone know ? it is still in mint condition.
Falcon 2 p.s. also have a paratrooper stock for it,and a five rd. magazine, and a parachute drop case

The sling and oiler cutout appears to be off position a little on the stock for an IBM... of course the 5 round magazine is more rare than the rifle.
