Scope Mount for M1 Carbine?

Greetings. I just bought a brand new Auto-Ord M1 Carbine, and I'm waiting out the 10 day waiting period here in N. Taxifornia. The stock fit is tight, the wood is fantastic, action feels good. I wanted to grab one before Pelosi and crowd make them totally illegal.

By the way, I visited the CMP site and they're basically out of them now.

I've never owned an M1 Carbine although I fired them once in awhile, to stay current, as we carried some in the small arms locker (along with Thompsons, 1911s, and M1s) aboard the U.S. Navy Destroyer I served in in the Cold War.

Since this one is not a collector but a shooter, I'd like to put a low power scope on it (something like 1.5-6x or thereabouts). Ultimak makes a nice drop-in CNC machined metal picatinny rail that replaces the upper wood handguard. However, I'm not sure about the eye relief issue with that approach, or how far back you could set the scope in that mount.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I just found, on Numrich's website, a scope mount they call "M1 Carbine T3 Scope Mount & Rings", for which they are charging $125. They say it is G.I. parkerized steel.

Does anyone know how this thing mounts? The info given on the website is sparse. All it says is "fits in place of the rear sight".

The problem usually arises with spent case ejection when using that mount...they jam up the rifle by FTE...
and if you break your scope, you have no Sights to revert to...

Huh??

They're out of M1 Carbines?

I don't know who you talked to, but they have a bunch of carbines, from various manufacturers, on hand, right now..

M1 Carbine

North and South store, too, according to the forums.

The T3 mounting was a little more complex that removing the rear sight. I don't believe you could do it without some rather extensive and permamant alterations to your new gun.

There are Inlands and National Postal meters availabnle now. They will be releasing Winchesters next (soon) and other makers through the coming year. Thats the way they have always done it, one manufacturer at a time

It's the correct site. As Orlando mentioned, there's only a few manufacturers that they're currently selling, but they have THOUSANDS of them on hand..

They're gone through, cleaned (now they're better than ever), and checked for safe operation. If there's any problem they will make it right, and do so very quickly.

I went to the North Store in Camp Perry a while back, and the racks were full of Service Grade Inlands.. It was extremely hard to pick out 2 rifles.. They were so nice, it was tough to find what to take home.. The racks had around 200 to pick from, with more in the back to restock after I'd picked out what I wanted.

Thanks for all the explanations. I was clueless about how the whole CMP thing works. Do they have a physical store on the Left Coast (I live in Pelosi-land)?

Or you can do like most do, and just mail order (after meeting the correct requirements) Check out the site for all the info needed, and if you have questions, post em' and they'll get answered quickly..

I bought a Springfield Garand and a H&R Garand, as well as an Inland Carbine through ordering.. All were fantastic purchases, that I couldn't have been happier with..

Although, it was the kid in the candy store syndrome when I rode my motorcycle out to Port Clinton, OH. So many choices!!!

I'm headed down to Birmingham, AL in Feb to visit the Barbar Motorcycle Museum, and will spend a few hours at the South Store while there.. I don't know which thing I'm more fired up about, and I really like motorcycles..

One thing you might consider before you scope a carbine is to shoot it to find out where it will spit the spent casings. Some spit forward, some back, some spit'em everywhere. Like Moose states spent cases caught under a scope will lessen your shooting experience and satisfaction.
As for CMP, they're the best place to go. I purchased several and have been very happy each time.

Yeah, Thanks for the rides to those exotic ports and beyond. You guys really did have great chow, but they always turned the water off just as we got lathered up...what was up with that?

I'll be damned if I know....they did it to Navy people too. It was those engineers down in the boiler room spaces...we called them "snipes"....never sure what they were up to. They were making fresh water out of salt water somehow, and I guess they had to shut down once in awhile to flush everything out. We learned to shower damned fast.

Another thing about the snipes...when we had an unrep and all hands working party to move it aboard, a lot of chow disappeared down into those snipe holes and never made it to the ship's storerooms and reefers. The snipes had steam and hot water down there and they could cook up anything.

The carbine would be great with a scout scope. Id get one of the forward mounts. No problems with ejection. A red dot would be fine too.

Hey Navy, I bought a Kahr Arms M1 Carbine about three years ago and it has a metal ventalated hand guard. I took off the rear site and mounted the m1 carbine scope mount that you can get anywhere. I installed several scopes but kept having the same problem. The ejector would grab the shell casing and eject it but sometimes the shell would hit the bottom of the scope and stove pipe (stick in the reciever bolt) and it makes for a miserable day of shooting. Not every shell did this but enough to make me think of something new. I ended up using the same mount but installed a Aim Point Red dot. With this, I didn't need to worry about the eye releif or the scope blurring, just turn it on and site it in and shoot all day. You might want to go with the red dot scopes as long as your eyesite for distances is fine. I have to wear my glasses in order to see the target and it doesn't interfear at all. I am glad I did that install.

They do make shell deflectors for those scope mounts. Yhey are nothing more tha a bent piece of sheet metal that can be attached to the mount. They really help. Not that I'd bother with a scope on a carbine. But I have seen a few in operation.
