Universal M1 - info share
If you don't like Univerals M1's please go elseshere to vent. I know that many consider the M1 carbine junk since the type 2 was introduced with none USGI specification. But about 400,000 of Type 2 & 3 rifles were produced and the majority are used by happy shooters. It is agreed that the Universal M1 has limited collectors value, but this is why you may still obtain these rifles at reasonable prices. Uni-M1's are a lot of fun to shoot. My wife even likes shooting the Uni-M1's.
Personally I own two Universals a type 2 and a type 3. They both shoot fine, but the rear sight windage on the type 2 is to the left and the type 3 is max right with rear sight mount also pushed right. They both shoot under a 2" group at 50 yards with the orginal open sights. My goal is to aline the barrels to bring the rear sights close to on center as I am sure the barrels are out of alinement. I have search online for information about a solution for this issue with no results. If anyone knows of a solution please share.
I intend to use two magnetic laser levels. One attached to the action and one attached to the barrel and to use cramps and wood blocks to force the barrel into closer alinement with the action. Once this is done I am unsure how to make sure the barrel stays in alinement. I have though about bedding the rear of the barrel and the front of the action. But I will first shoot 50 to 100 rounds to see if it stays on target.
My purpose in posting this is to encourage owners that have or had problems with a Univeral or other commercal M1 to post it along with their solution.
