Remember that M1 found in the barn???

Had my dad over today for his birthday and gave him the rifle after dessert. He was speechless and his jaw hit the floor!
I met with Dookiebutt last week for a couple of hours and he was kind enough to give the rifle a once-over. Both ends of the barrel gauged at a 1 and the numbers all jived with his reference info. We even managed to find some red paint on the stock and sling swivel. Dookiebutt, please chime in and summarize our meeting. Thanks for taking the time and educating me about the M1, I really appreciate it.
I think I made my dad's day.

I had a great time meeting this new member and going over the parts of his rifle. According to Duff and Canfield, this rifle was correct. We even found traces or red paint on the handguard and swivel. It was in better shape than it had appeared from the first set of photos that were posted. What a great find.

By the way, tell your father I'll trade him $200 and a "supremely viable" 10/22 for that Garand.

Thumbs up

That was very thoughtful of you, and remembered your story (got my first two weeks ago).
Did it look almost that good when you first discovered it?

If he runs short of ammo for it by early Nov., maybe a bit for Christmas in his stocking?
