I've heard of M1As being violated in such a manner, and of Garands going auto as a malfunction. If this is what I think it is, it fires an 8 round burst, if you know what I mean. Real full auto requires very deliberately designed mechanisms and there are many wrong ways to do it, in that they could fire out of battery or at the very least not stop when you let off the trigger. So for goodness sake, forget about such screwy violations (not conversions or modifications) to a great rifle.

I think your playing with fire when you screw around like that. I would not advise or recommend anybody in trying to pull off a stunt like that. The Garand was never made to be a fully automatic rifle and by tampering and comprimising the saftery of the weopon is totally stupid.

The problem with that kind of mod is that the hammer would ride the bolt home instead of being held until the bolt locks before being disconnected. A slam fire type of discharge could occur with the bolt out of battery and then bad things would happen. Such a modification would not only be illegal but very dangerous. If you want a full auto Garand, save your $ and buy one of its legal sporterized cousins (also called the M14).
