| Senior Member | Since M1 Ball..... Hi all, ....was "condemend" for use in the M1 Garand Rifle, how did Ordnance get rid of the stockpiles on hand? Hint: date is 1940. See told you it would be easy. Have fun Thanks again Clancy |

| Senior Member | The M1 wasn't the only .30 weapon in inventory. The 1903, BAR and M1917s could all handle M1 ball ammo so my guess is that the M1 ball was reserved for those weapons while the M2 was standardized for the M1 rifle.

| Senior Member | Hi all, Ordnance went to Congress for funds for the new M2 Ball. Congress said that Ordnance had to use up the 10 MILLION rds on hand before new funds would be used. Ordnance could not let it stay to be used in the Model '03 or the Bar because it might find its way into some M1 Garand. Soooooooo Ordnance gave all of it to the Army Air Corp (USAF today) to be used in the aircraft, fighters and bombers, cause back then 1940 they only had .30 machine guns in the fighter and bombers. Now Ordnance got the new funding. Hope you had fun with this on. Want more?? Thanks again Clancy ps did you like that one leemozoid?? |

| Senior Member | mikefink, Ordnance found that the powder in M1 Ball became a solid Mass on the Gas Trap. Second it was found to have a 12 lb Bolt lift. Remember the bolt on the M1 Garand turns. The New M2 Ball ahd better powder and had a 2lb bolt lift. However, the whole story is in The Garand Papers. That's the two Vol.'s I have out now. Thanks for the question Clancy |

| Senior Member | Hi all, I have update my two sites on the net with data on the M1 Ball question. Both sites have been update. If you want to check the M1 Ball data. I have posted just a few of the many files I have on the M1 Ball to M2 Ball. For the rest of the data on the M1 Garand you just have to buy the books I sell. Have fun. Here's the site that has the M1 Ball data: http://www.garandm1rifle.com Then just click on the M1 Ball data on the front page. Thanks again Clancy |

| Moderator ![]() | You need to see what the government wrote about Hatcher. Gotta get those ducks inline and maybe email Ed about this. Ed Clancy has the files that may amaze you about Hatcher. Hatchers used all the wrong termanoligy so how can you trust anything he wrote. By the way Eds files are straight from the folks mouths to paper how much better can you get than that. Sir I hope you arent trying to aggravate Mr. Clancy as it seems in your last two post's. ??? Rick B

| Senior Member | VVG, The Ordnance orders are what I use to tell the story about M1 and M2 Ball. Hatcher's book on the Garand doesn't cover the major problems that the M1 Garand had. The real story is found in the Ordnance files. Thanks again Clancy |

| Senior Member | VVG, If you want to check out one of my sites on the net. There are two sites up each has different Ordnance files on them. They are out of order because they are to give you some idea of what it's about. Here's one site address: http://www.garandm1rifle.com The Vol's are paper each is about 200 pages of Ordnance files. There is a CD which has old Signal Corps footage of the M1 Garand being made and tested. I hope this data helps. If you have any questions just email me. Thanks again Clancy |
