Well, the obvious problem that is in the question is the use of the word "semiautomatic". That was a term applied only to the 1st 80 model shop rifles. After that the rifle's nomenclature was US RIFLE CAL. .30 M1.

Ah. The order standardized a rifle which at the time was still in model shop stages and not an extant production item?

I know Gas Trap is a made up name and not the true name. And the model shop name was T1E2 Which then was adopted January 9th 1936 to "Model 1936". Or could it be "M 36" ?????? Or "Model of 1936" ??????
Darn it I want to beat Steve hahahahahaha. Thanks for the quizes Ed. Rick B

Hi all,
What was wrong with the "order to Standardization of the U. S. Semiautomatic Rifle, Caliber .30 M1, is considered suitable for service use and is classified as follows:"
Down on part (3) "The Ordnance Department is charged with the storage and issue of this item.
By Order of the Secretary of War"
The Main problem with this Order is that there are no M1 Rifles, except for the 80 toolroom models. So in 1936 there was nothing to store or issue. There would not be any production M1 Rifles until Aug. of 1937.
Of course there were TWO M1 Rifles built in July of 1937.
Hope you had fun with this one.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps I think most of you guys would like a break from my quiz on the M1 Garand
Thanks to those who played the game.
