Garand, Hole in back of trigger guard

Sorry if this has been asked before. I looked and coul not find anything on it.

Iv'e noticed some Garands have a hole in the back of the trigger guard & some do not.

Is this a period of production issue or a OEM vs replacement parts issue or neither?

Reason I ask is, a guy I know looked at my M1 with the trigger group in the gun saysit was not original. I have a 1943 gun with no hole in the trigger guard.

The trigger guard housing has numbers on it ending in, I believe D.A.R the hammer has a definite SA marking on it.

Just curious. CMP advertises this rack grade as posibly having some Danish or Italian parts. I'm on the path of beginning to try to figure out what is what on the gun.

My winter trigger fits in the hole. Allows you to fire the firearm with mittens on.

original pattern for the milled trrigger guard, the stamped guards were a war expiedient. my post Korean mfg Garand has the milled guard.

Makes sense. So, this only indicates a stamped guard.

yep, you have a stamped trigger guard. absolutely nothing wrong with it, especially as most garands are lucky to retain more than 1 or 2 of their original parts.

the guy is a numbskull, the Garands been built and rebuilt and rebuilt, so nothing is original on many of them.
