| Registered User | Hello, I'm new here Okay guys i have a question. i recently field stripped my M1, and after reassembly i noticed, that after ejecting the 8 rounds, the clip fails to eject. it stays in place, now what is keeping the clip from ejecting? i have checked my manual over and over, i dont want to keep disassembling the weapon. everything else works fine, but the clip fails to eject like the shells. any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance! | Senior Member | I suspect that the clip ejector spring in the Trigger housing has a problem. It may be weak/bent/broken/out of place, but if it is in the correct configuration and condition, there should be no problem with the clip being ejected when it has been emptied. The manual should show where it is and how to remove and replace it. It is not uncommon for these springs to fail, several people I know have had this problem, though I have never had a failure with one. It is a good idea to have a spare clip ejector spring in your spares kit. The removal and replacement requires that the whole trigger housing group be disassembled, be careful with the springs. It may be best to take it to a good M1 Garand Armorer. Your local CMP Shooting Club should have several people who are easily capable of disassembly/reassembly of the trigger housing group. Check with the Rangemaster at your local shooting range if you can't find a CMP Shooting Club and he may know of a M1 Garand Armorer to direct you to. As always, when you have done work on a M1 Garand (or any semi-auto firearm), never load more than 2 rounds the first time you shoot it after reassembly. If it doubles, with only 2 rounds, it should be easily controllable, but if you have a full 8 round clip, it can be a handful, not to mention your last few shots may go over the backstop berm! ` |
