Woodless Dane SA 2793388

Excited... that's me.
Forty days, initial order to CMP (May 11) to FedEx at the door (June 20) with my "new" no-wood SA Dane. Since June 20, I've cleaned off what seems to be an awful lot of gunk, but there's no rust, no pitting, and not all that much wear on the parkerizing. Bore's in decent shape: MW and TE both in the 3+ area, with good sharp rifling. My local 'smith gave it a clean bill of health today including checking the headspace.
Well, I got the action into the new CMP repro stock earlier this evening. Used the take-off handguards and other stock hardware from the HRA I made into a shooter a couple of years ago. Looks good, I think, and does it *ever* have a tight lockup!
I'll be taking her to the range this coming weekend to see if an M1 still remembers who I am! [grin]
Come the club's "Shoot the Greatest Battle Implement" fun shoot in July, there are going to be at least two M1s present. Hooray!

More Woodless Dane...

Took my unChristmas present to the range on Saturday... that's the woodless Dane (SA2793388) in a CMP repro stock. Must say that I'm pleased, even if my group wasn't all that good. (But hey, the ol' eyes aren't what they used to be -- nor is anything else, for that matter. [grin])

Anyway, the attached pictures show at the left and right, the rifle (SAmantha -- she has a sister HRA M1 named Gertrude); at top center, the receiver heel; at bottom center, the damage I did with eight rounds of 150g FMJ Remingtons at 100 yards. The lower two I called as out; the rest are in about a 3"x4" box. That's a ten-inch-bull repro Army 'A' target, BTW. Yes, I've got some sight-futzing to do.

Now, I've not done anything much to the new stock, and the handguards are takeoffs from another rifle, so they don't match -- obviously. The sling's a USGI dated very late, I think: "MRT 12-86." (It was given to me, so even if it is a fake, I don't care... it looks right, and it works!) Parkerizing's not bad at all: well-worn, of course, but it's honest wear, right?

That was this weekend's adventure. Coupla guys, coupla rifles (Gertrude also participated), several rounds downrange, no malfunctions, holes in appropriate places; who could ask for more?
-
[The preview indicates the pictures are clear; too clear: "Springfield" is misspelled in the picture title. Durn!)]

Hey, even the local 'smith was impressed. And it looks like we're going to have at least *four* M1 rifles for the club's "Shoot the Greatest Battle Implement" fun shoot in three weeks!
