I haven't picked up my M1 yet, but I'm just looking at all the different things people have said about ammo for an M1.

So far, I've got two boxes of .30-06 - PMC and Winchester. I picked up the 150 grain Winchester soft point for $13 at Wal-Mart, and the 147 grain PMC FMJBT stuff for about $14 or $15 at Cordova Guns (local gunshop).

I've decided not to use corrosive ammo. Bad experiences with my 91/30 and corrosive... mainly in the cleaning area... lead me to say i'd rather pay the extra money for expensive stuff.

Which ammo should I be using for my Garand when I get it? Which ammo will damage the gun, and which ammo is better for it?

Also, I see that CtD has Silver Bear .30-06 FMJBT 145 grain at $6.30 a box. That's half the price of the other crap. Is that OK? Also, there's military-standard stuff that looks good, too, but that's more expensive. Links:

Of the two choices you have from Cheaper'n'Dirt, I'd go with the remanufactured military. (IMR 4895 powder was the standard for M2 Ball ammo when the M1 was in active service.)

I've had good luck with Remington/UMC 150-gr FMJ. There are some who swear by Federal Match Gold; that's loaded with 168-gr bullets, IIRC.
