Warning, before you go to my sites lower your volume as the opening page contains a sound file which has a loading and firing of the M1 Garand. | Gentlemen, Ordnance spent about 100,000 dollars trying to fix this problem. Finally they took it to Mr Garand. He stated that they used use "grease" and not oil. Bingo the problem was fixed. Thanks again Clancy |

| Machines run with grease, and are protected from corrosion with oil. A car engine is lubricated with oil, but has a pressure or drip system that assures the oil will be present where it is needed. A rifle on the other hand needs grease in certain locations, even a bolt or lever rifle, but especially a semi-auto rifle. The semi-auto rifle is a machine that can't take the weight penalty of a mechanism to assure that oil will be where it is needed, thus the lubrication which will stay on the parts, and not melt and run off when it gets hot; GREASE! Lubri-Plate was developed for this purpose, however any high temperature grease such as axle grease will do the job. ` |
