| Gas trap Garand....What?
Gidday all, happy new year. Pardon my ignorance but there seems to be a great deal of hoo-ha surrounding the "gas trap" Garand. Could someone please enlighten me as to what the difference is to a standard M1? I'm guessing that the gas trap version was an early prototype or pre war production model. Cheers. |

Here is a link to a page that compares the two types. The Gas Trap was an early production model. They are pretty rare. Fulton Armory: The Gas Trap Gallery! |

Thanks for that, has anyone got one of these rifles? If so apart from the collector value are they any better than the stock standard war production models?

The value is in the collectability. I beleive the problems were in the gas trap system, it was difficult to clean and carbon deposits built up. Thats why they were changed to present configuration. There is a Gas Trap Op Rod spring selling on E-Bay now. Its up over $600.00 !! eBay: Early M1 Garand Gas Trap Port Op Rod Spring Keystone (item 260069539193 end time Jan-02-07 15 00 PST) |
