| Senior Member | New custom handgaurds Just received new Garand Handguards made from mesquite wood. The look great if you know what mesquite looks like. The tree type is called "honey mesquite" for it's obvious honey color. Should be receiving the stock in couple weeks. Mesquite is a very hard wood and will does not take stain well. I will be useing Danish Oil followed by boiled linseed oil. Who's making stock? Found an ol boy with stock duplicating lathe. Will post pics as project develops.

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Cool! Is it figured? I do a lot of grips using Mesquite burls and root-ball. These are highly figured w\beautiful patterns. Just a word of advice, sand to 400 grit before applying a heavy coat of oil finish and continue sanding while wet. When it starts gumming, stop and let set until dry. Re-sand to the surface of the wood, apply another coat and let dry. Finish in the grit of your choice. I usually finish with a turning finish containing Carnauba wax for a glassy look. Good Luck on the project.
