| Hi Guy's, Someone on a dutch forum asked me to ask around here how to get a new (used) receiver. He own's a Garand but noticed a crack in the receiver. I don't know how that could happen (asked him but got no reply yet but I think he used hot reloads) but he want's to replace that cracked receiver. As it is not a common rifle as it is in the US it is hard to come by such parts here in the Netherlands/Europe. I like to know from any of you if there is a place he could buy a used receiver to replace the other one. This receiver should be an original (not welded together) receiver. Brand/make is not a subject as long as it is a non commercially made receiver. The seller should be able to send to this side of the big pond. I know that takes a lot of paperwork but it's his problem so if it cost him so be it! Thanks for looking and the help, Rob

| Senior Member | Depending on who made the original receiver, if they are still in business, they can replace the receiver, putting the serial number from the old one on the new one. That makes the receiver a repair or replacement with the same number, not requiring a "Sale." I had a Colt 1911A1 receiver replaced, this way. If the company is no longer in business, or no longer in the firearm business like International Harvester, I would try a company like Caspian who is currantly making M1 receivers, ask if they can put that serial number on a new receiver. Any other receiver would require a firearm transaction.

| Yup, That's what I thought. This receiver is a SA-receiver So... He has to make a Firearm transaction but which gunstore has receiver only for sale??? (If they have a webstore or emailaddress that would make it easier!) Rob

| @ lefty: I will suggest that to the guy, Thanks! Looking at the pictures placed in an other thread here a couple of weeks a go I still wonder why those f**king goverments want to destroy these old ladys so bad! I got word about how this crack happend: The former owner had the barrel replaced because it did burst!!!! Probably a bullettip got stuck and he fired a new round with that result. So I wonder If he knew about that crack!!?? Another thing I was thinking about is: Welding that crack and heat-treat it again. It did work for the welded receivers to make them complete again so it should be possible to do it with a crack shouldn't it?? I mean: if a good armorer knows what he is doing it could work! But...That should only be a last hope attempt! Rob

| Super Moderator ![]() | Welding is an option than can be considered, IF you can find someone competent that knows welding and Metallurgy. The reciever would have to be annealed first, then the crack ground out in a slight V, then preheated and heli-arced or Tig welded then ground/machined smooth, then heated to the right temperature, quenched, and then drawn to temper in an oven for the proper length of time for the number steel used in the receiver..Finally it will have to be scaled, polished, and reparkerized...Then reassembled ! Rich ( P.S. Lookup Riverbank Armory on the web, they did have SA Receivers for about 300.00 !) Rich

| does anybody know where an m1-d barrel might be acquired ? i`m thinking that the stock barrel on my m1 might be replaced with it, thereby giving me the option of shooting with a scope!! |

| Senior Member | gunnut I'm assuming here. You can buy a M1D scope adapter for your barrel. Now for the scope rings. Not sure if they make them in 1". Good luck on your search. Instead of M1D barrel, how about installing a Krieger barrel.

| Why don't you look at the gun shows in Germany. There is always a large dealer on the upper level, south side, at Stutgart that has used Garand receivers. I've bought several from him over the years. I'm sure he is at other shows also. There is a large show in northern Germany also. Another good place would be the militaria shows at Arlon u. Ciney Belguim. No good reason at all to buy one in the US and go thru the form 6 u. shipping hassel! Sarge |
