| production stamps
I just purchased a winchester M1 Garand about a month ago. I cannot find the winchester production stamp on the rifle, i have two proof stamps though. Does this mean the wood has been replaced? Thanks Will on closer inspection i do kinda see what might have been the winchester stamp. Last edited by BaylorU; 03-29-2007 at 02:35 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

First of all: welcome on the board. As far as my (small) knowledge goes the only Winchester "stamp" on the rifle is on the receiver On the wood could be a cartouch but that could be a "wrong" one for this particular rifle! Rob

Baylor, Welcome. To check for the "wp" stamp on the barrel pull back the op-rod until it locks. That means all the way back. Now look on the barrel which was under the op-rod. You should see a small circle with two small letters in side it and that is a WP. That means it is Winchester Proof. I hope this data helps. Thanks again Clancy |
