What do you make of this file/M1/1938

Gentlemen,
The title says it all. But what do you think about this Order on the M1 Garand.
Without input from you guys no one learns anything Try to put in some info/question and we can learn more of the M1's History.

I could use some hits Thanks again

Sounds like they wanted the Garand as the service rifle awful bad and right now. Could NOT have made a better choice. They knew war was coming and wanted something a lot better than what Hitler or the Brits had.

Maybe it's just me, but there was a line in there about "without regard to the existing laws prescribing competition"...
...which, to me, means that there was a bit of a scandal that no one knew about. Congress let the Springfield armory get around anti-trust laws, monopoly laws, and the like such that they could produce as many rifles as fast as possible, not caring who fell at their feet in the process.

Very interesting to see something like this and then look how people demonize how war is run now.

Not a problem, it's my pleasure.

I love these posts you make of the Garand documentation, especially since I want to own one, but don't have the money to do so.

It's a piece of history that I never came close to experiencing, due to being only 25 years of age, but have much respect for those that did, such as my only living grandparent who served in the Canadian Navy.
