| CMP Discussion Forum - CMP Test firing operation - brand new Orest says they "plan on using it on everything else. . . " but collector grades. He does not say they have been using it on everything else but collector grades. Orlando, you have been to the North Store. You have handled many rifles. How many of those rifles had bores clogged with cosmoline and "stuff"?? Quite a few I bet. In fact, I have scored many nice Garands at the North Store sold as rack grades because they were incorrectly marked "bore". It was just some grease or cosmo in the barrel. If they had been test fired, that would not have been there. They cleaned up with a few patches. Do they test fire some? Probably. Do they test fire them all? No way. |

| You better go back and read what I said. I never said the army does all of that. I did say they inspect them on importation before being shipped off to the CMP in Anniston. They are paid $15.00 to do this. I also stated that the CMP does not shoot each rifle for testing. Now maybe as of the last month they have started again after some flak but that is the only way. I'm not making this up and you seem to be adding allot of words to my mouth. I have always known the CMP is supposed to break them down and go over them. I wont even discuss what happens during this period. When you get a chance next time ask them at CMP who Rick B is then ask them who Orlando is. I know they know me and plenty from many talks we have had. Reading the forums doesn't mean you know about the heart beat inside. You are seeing what they want you to see. Also this started from the CMP passing info off as if there out of Garands and you turned it all around. Now if you want lets open this to another thread and I will delete all of this from here to let Paper get his thread back. Rick B

| There are no truths on what you posted. Those are someones words. Dont gloat over those post as your next email to orest should be,,, Why are the barrel so full of grease if you test fire them all""" He will then tell you the truth. Its funny how you ignore that point but refuse to tell me how the CMP gets all of that grease back in those barrels after firing them all. Teh same grease packed all over those cleaned and tested rifles. Wait you mean they leave them covered in grease and work on them?????? Thats great for head spaceing. Rick B

| My point exactly. I got into it with him a while about CMP running out of Garands and my missing the boat. Which now they have more and I ordered one, so I should be good to go. Well, now that paper's thread has been completly hijacked...... try to let us know what you get from CMP. Good luck....

| I did get a SOG Garand For your info I jumped on the M1 Garand ad early on and recieved the gun Wednesday of this week. I also paid an additional $25.00 for the hand picked gun. Weeeeeeeel I unpacked the gun and guess what. The butt plate is a disaster, the stock is oil soaked dinged all to hell and has a huge chunk out of the area at the trigger guard. The barrel and the gas tube are a silver and have chicken pox marks. The reciever has about a 1/4" fore to aft travel and the front hand guard has a huge loose radial travel. I uses up two 8mm bronze brushes and finally resorted to a stainless bush in .30 caliber with enough Accubore, Hoppes 9, Kroil and Uncle Bucks to turn my work bench into a toxic waste dump!!!!! Now if I use a strong light and some Absolute vodka I think that I see a rifling maybe. The bore is dark shot out and not the barrel that was originally with the gun. It looks like a parts gun. Knowing what I know now I should have bought a couple of shooters grades that went for $550 and $575 at the last gun auction that I was at. I hope that you get a better weapon that I did mine is not even a shooter. LOU I have posted to the other comment on the SOG Garands and can tell you that if the guns are like the one I got don't bother. After I rebarreled it, got new furniture and sent it out for re-blueing with me doing the metal work I would have $500 to $600 tied up in the fixes. For that amount of money I can purchase a new M1 from Springfield armory. I was disappionted in the one I got. It is curently headed back to SOG. | Last batch I got from both SOG and Century were in such bad shape, I will never buy used/milsurp from either again (but century is good for new commie rifles). If you want a garand..get it from cmp...you absolutely cannot go wrong. aim is the best for QUALITY in other milsurp stuff. I have never gotton any junk from them.
