| Small Number of M1 for the USMC Gentlemen, This report shows us what the USMC wanted. Odd about only 400 M1 Garands. Only for the US Fleet Marine Force. Without input from you guys no one learns anything Try to put in some info/question and we can learn more of the M1's History. Your input is very important to all of us. Guys read the files if you have the time and post what you think was going on. Some files have been seen before This data is for some of the new guys ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks again Clancy NRA Life Endowment NRA Training Counselor NRA Instructor FSS 90% / BW X Speed Div by 1000 = PF |

| Prior to World War II, the Marine Corps was extremely small. After December 7, 1941 the FMF grew dramatically. It should be noted that the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) was primarily those personel who would be immediately sent into combat situations. As I read the extracts, the Marine Corps ultimately wanted 2,700 semi-auto rifles for FMF personel; they already had procured 400 rifles and would settle for an addition 1000 at the time of the discussion, to be delivered to FMF units. The Marines of the FMF entered WW II with the Springfield '03 and were not armed with the M1 Garand as the basic combat rifle until late 1942. |
