Lithgow revisited

Hi folks,
Im setting up to build a parts bag shooter and it looks like the Lithgow reciever is about the cheapest way to go. After a Lithgow search here Iv found no personal build experiance on the old threads. Any new details on these recievers would be apreciated. One point not covered is Yea, I like machined forgings to but technicaly castings are stronger when properly manufactured. Hi stress parts are typicaly cast due to the fact the "grain" of the steel conforms to the part configuration giving it a edge over forgings in the tensil strength of the piece. On that point, Bill Ruger knew what he was doing. Any way, Im just about ready to pick a Lithgow up unless there is some new negative info that has come to light. Thanks for your thoughts.

Think resale.

You can get a CMP receiver for $95 still. Repark it if needed. You will sell it on this board or any gun show for whatever current market is. I don't think there will be much demand for a Lithgow.

As a update, Iv finished my parts gun project and am very pleased with it. The gun failed to eject a spent clip once out of the 6 clips we put through the gun. The barrel is one of the "what a country" 4 groove $129 specials and I couldent be happier with it. As for the Lithgow reciever, it needed a little extra grinding near the left lug and the back bolt stop wall to alow the bolt smooth function. Other than that, the action accepted all the dupage SA parts perfectly. My total cost was $538 (new handguard wood put me over 5) for a real good shooter. Obviously if a guy had to pay someone to smith this together, you would be in the "buy it out right" price range. One other tidbit for any other NON collectors out there, Iv found the Chinese 10 pocket SKS chest ammo pouch works great for holding Garand clips. 2 clips in each pocket, one up and one down. For a total of 160rds on a belt. Its a very well made carrier for 10-15 bucks. I remember they used to give one away with a sks purchase years ago. Now that Iv thourghly torqed the straight jacket traditionalists here, Ill bid you all fare well!
