Lightbulb Correct bayonet?

Guys & Gals...

I have an M1 Garand manufactured in the summer of 1941. I am finding conflicting reports as to the accurate type of bayonet that would be correct for the year. Any insight?

A little info on the Garand: The Garand is a matching set barrel/receiver and all components of the M1 are correct by part number with only two exceptions... the stock (700.00) and the Type-1 sight (900.00) ... was far too expensive so I had to go Type-2.

I built it in honor of my Grandfather, a WWII firefighter who was at Pearl Harbor that fateful day. Luckily for him... he was on the airfield.

In addition, I was named after him... gotta keep some things going...

For an early WWII Garand, the Model 1905 bayonet (parkerized finish) would be correct. I believe the M1 bayonet was used later in the war.

"...all components of the M1 are correct..." If the rifle shoots well, it's correct.
In 1941, the M1905 bayonet was still being issued. Cheap they ain't. $150 and up. The cut down to 10" 1905 isn't much easier to find nor much less expensive.
Grandpa would have been issued a 1903A3 Springfield if he had time to screw around with rifles. Truth be told, his skill with a hose was likely far more important and useful. Guys like him are unsung heroes. Charging into a blazing hanger or any building is far more hazardous than being a PBI.

Ditto on the 03A3. If he was issued a rifle, that was probably it. He could have picked up anything on that day, however a firehose would have been the best choice.

Good luck finding the M1905 bayo. There are repros out there so been careful.
