advice on scope mounts

Hi all I am thinking of mounting a scope on one of my Garands and I'm wondering what mount is the best one out there. any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet would be one that replaces the rear sight. They're easy to install and won't require any gunsmithing. Another possibility is an M1D style mount. I don't know much about them except they go around the barrel and the stock needs to be slightly modified. I prefer an M1C style mount but that requires drilling and tapping into the side of the reciever and the mounts run around $300.
