Inside? Possibly an alteration for a theatrical blank firing device. In would be nearly invisible. It could cause a major catastrophic failure though; if a live round was fired with it in place.

I think my vote is with M14 on this one. All normal military attachments that I'm aware of are external.

Its for a blank firing device. I had a chance to view all the Garands at the North Store not long agao. The Ceremonial rifles there had the blank firing devices removed. Most of them had external threads but a few had interenal threads. Some also had a hole drilled through the barrel under the gas cylinder . Your rifle could be one of those. Thats the bad thing about CMP selling those, people buying them up and reselling them to unsuspecting buyers. I dont think it is unsafe to fire but would think it would be very unaccurate. Dont take my word on the saftey of it though, something you have to decide. I probably has the barrel welded to the reciver also. Personally I would hang it on the wall and buy another

It's for a BFA. I have a G4 with a barrel threaded like that. It still fires live ammo fine without the BFA.
