Ok, it is official, I have it, that dang bug has bitten and I can't stand the wait any longer! Two weeks ago today I mailed my paperwork off for a Service Grade, SA M-1 Garand from the CMP. Syptoms include, checking my e-mail every half hour for an update (they e-mailed me when they verified and processed my order, said more info would be forthcoming), drooling over other M1s I find on he web, picking up every M1 book I can get my hands on, and looking in dismay at my humble gun collection and wondering if that blank spot will EVER be filled! AAARRRRGGGGHHH! Can't they at least send the 400 rnds I ordered so I can take all the ammo out of the clips, inspect each round and put it back in? That would at least keep my mind occupied for, oh, I dunno, a few hours at least! I know it has only been a few weeks and they said on the web page it could take up to 90 days, but DANG IT MAN! I would like to hear from others who have experienced this oh-so-deadly virus... post away! |

I was there, it's not a fun feeling. It took a little less than 4 weeks for mine to arrive (about 3 weeks ago). The ammo however, came earlier this week. GL, hang in there

Oh yeah...had it for years. Got two from CMP in the past year and will be ordering another soon. The wait is worth every minute but be prepared to give it a thorough cleaning. |

Blog Entries: 7 | Not really, it is really easy if you are in the military, as military service takes care of a lot of the requirements. First thing you need to do is go here and review the requirements, ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. I know it seems like a huge pain in the butt, but if you are a member of ANY VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, that type of thing, they will take that as an "affiliated club" they no longer have to be specificly listed on the list of clubs. If you are a member or veteran of the military or law enforcement, that also counts as your requirement for Firearms Related Activity. Go to the site, have a look-see, and if you want to do it, download the forms and fill them out, DO NOT FORGET TO HAVE THE THIRD PAGE NOTERIZED!!! The page that I gave also has a FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions, there is some interesting info on there too! It is a great organization, and once you order from them once, all your info stays on file so you can keep going back for more rifles, carbines, ammo, etc, etc! Oh yeah and customer service is top notch, they set the bar for every other firearm company! |

Curio and Relics license, Conceal Carry License, hunting course with live fire training, haveing a range officer fill out firearms handling sheet, or proof of shooting in a match also fullfills firearms firing. The Garand Collectors Association is a great club to subscribe to. You get quarterly magazines with alot of good info

Heck I really really want a B A R but dont see that happening very soon. I am looking for a 41 Johnson. Do you have any of them Sarge? Any pics that is. As for the Garand I know I dont need to tell anyone that owns one this. But when you pick them up and shoot them they are one of the most great feeling rifles you can fire. Sure they are a little heavy but then your not getting rocked by a lot of recoil either. But they just feel so right in your hands when you touch off those rounds.

Everyone should have a Carbine - or 3? Who said you wuz gonna katch-up wid me? BARs I got 2 of, but never had any interest in the johnsons. Most of my stuff will go to museums, I also have a very large militaria collection. I like the Garand, but prefer to shoot a K 43 - weight about the same. Have hunted with one since 1959. I am very familiar with the Queen Ann manual of arms! Sarge

Alright so I broke down and e-mailed them yesterday, I just had to know what they knew! I know, I know, it says on the website that it could take 60-90 days, but hey, I am an impatient SOB! Anyway, the nice lady e-mailed me back saying they were still processing orders that arrived 28 April, and mine didn't get there until 15 May... OH THE WAIT IS KILLING ME! hahaha Oh well i guess I will sit tight the next month and a half and wait until I hear something else... Whoa is me... I guess patience will pay off sooner or later... | USAF 462/2W1X1, OK Air Force, here’s your half hour update. Congratulations, I have three Garands and about a thousand rounds of .30-06 ball made by Federal Eagle and Belgium FN NATO made in the early 60’s. Both shoot really well. I haven’t tried any other type of ammo, but I heard there is some good non-corrosive Greek NATO ball packed in 8 round enblock clips that shoots pretty well. Watch your thumb when inserting the eight round clips. Once the clip clears the bolt face, the bolt and operating rod will slam forward. I suggest that you get a diagram of how to field strip your Garand and reassemble it a few times. Don’t get discouraged, you’ll be a pro in no time. I pretty much knew what I was doing because I was issued the M-14 in the Navy and the two are very similar except for their gas systems and feed designs. Lubrication should be limited to wiping dry the parts with an oil rag after cleaning with solvent. Let the solvent do its work in the bore before using your brass brush. After a good wipe down, use good gun grease where the operating rod slides in the receiver rail. If you don’t have one yet, new green cotton canvas slings are available and cheap. Reproduction M-1907 leather slings are out there for about $30.00; well worth the investment. Finally, keep tour eye out for a bayonet. The most common were the 10” blade World War II M-1 type. The similar 16” blade version of the same bayonet is hard to find, but reproductions are coming out. Finally, the 6” blade M-5 post war bayonets are still fairly common and reasonable. Look in the Shotgun News or Google on line. As for new and surplus stocks, barrels and spare parts, they are “reasonably” priced and the world will never run out in our lifetimes, unless the government destroys it all. I heard that almost half of the 5.9 million Garand receivers that were in the U.S. inventory were destroyed by the Clinton Administration, and all but 40,000 of the original 1.6 million M-14’s were sold or given away to other countries by the same administration just to keep people like you and I from having them. Good luck, be patient, and enjoy your new rifle. |

No worries mate, I got it all covered, I ordered a 1907 Sling from e-bay three days ago, and I have a SA bayonet I got from e-bay about a year and a half ago when I was still getting all my WWII uniform items together. It is a cut-down 1906 dated bayonet with the blood groove ending at the cut off tip. Looks almost brand spankin new and has a BEAUTIFUL parkerized finish, i think I paid $140 for it or somewhere in there close, maybe it was $80... heck i don't remember! But I got it, it is attached to my haversack right now in the original cutdown scabbard... All I am missing is the dang rifle! Oh yeah and the ammo I ordered from CMP is greek stuff too... |
