so if i were to pick up an m1 for shooting looks not a concern in the least i'd be completley fine with a rack or field grade?

I would say maybe. You would be better off with a service grade because the muzzle and throat are going to be more worn, decreasing accuracy. I just got an M1 Carbine from CMP and it is a service grade with accuracy that REALLY surprised me. |

Rack and field grades are graded as such because they look more worn outwardly, or show more wear at the muzzle or throat according to gauges. Buy the best gun you can. It is well worth the increase in price.

I would never mail order a Rack Grade unless you plan on a rebarrel. I have handpicked Rack Grades that are great shooters but mail order is to much of a crap shoot. Order a Service Grade or a Field Grade at the least
