Operating Rod Safety

I have a “Tanker” Garand and am wondering about some surplus ammo. I have been shooting Lake City M2 that I know is safe. My question is about some 1962-1968 Lake City M72 Match ammo. It has a 173grain bullet loaded with IMR 4895, to a MV of 2640 fps.

Anyone got any ideas if this is safe for the operating rod?

Thanks,
Gerry

That is much closer to the .30 M1 round that the rifle was originally designed to use, which coincidentally used a powder with a much slower burning rate. Should be perfectly fine for use in any flavor of M1, assuming the rifle to be in operable condition - the pressure curve is kinder to the M1 than the .30 M1 Ball loading ever was.
