M1 Garand Sites Updated/Vol 2

Hi all,
I have just updated my M1 Garand sites on the net.
These are the ORIGINAL US Ordnance files on the M1 Rifle, better known as the M1 Garand.
Here are the site addresses.
http://www.users.fast.net/~eclancy
On the above address you must type in the whole address.
http://www.garandm1rifle.com
Both sites are linked to each other and each site has different data files on it.
Vol. 2 of The Garand Papers 1938 to 1939 is now available.
If you have any questions just email me.
Thanks again,
Clancy

Can I ask you and anyone else a question? On one of the file I was glancing through, one of them was describing the Johnson and the Garand. The author states that there is "no comparison between the two". Is that true? The Johnson is that much better of a rifle than the Garand? As in every possible way, accuarcy and fewer parts.....and everything else that can make a difference. If that's true, why wasn't the Johnson produced in more quantities, how come we don't see as many of them?

Grasshoppa,
The Johnson came along to late. Ordnance started to look for a semi-auto as early as 1920. Johnson was a Capt. in the USMC and when trials were tested Johnson took out his rifle a number of times. Ordnance already had the tooling and was making the M1 Garand. After reading a ton of data on the two I think the Garand was the better all around rifle.
I hope this data helps.
Thanks again
Clancy

Hmmm, that's too bad. Sort of a case of "at the right place at the wrong time" kinda thing. Well that's too bad. Thanks Clancy!

From owning both I can say the Garand is superior by far to the Johnson. There are many thing the Johnson has that are a problem like the two screws that hold the butt stock to the rifle. IN war conditions this would break in a matter of time. The rotary drum is a pain to load all the time and is slower to load than a Garand. There are a few who will argue but if they shoot the two and realistic think about war condiition's the Garand is a better rifle. The Johnson has a long tail like rear sight that with a good hit would put it out of wack easily. Theres more but this should be enough in my eyes. The Johsnon may shoot better but so did the 03 and it was dusted by the Garand for better features, one also being the sight. Rick B
