Hey Iron Colonel,
I used to be stationed at Ft. Lewis, left there in '98. I bought this Garand in Federal Way in '96. McCann's in Spanaway re-parkerized it for me in '97.
I'm extremely happy with that laminate stock set for both looks and performance. I ordered that stock from Deans Gun Restorations. I haven't seen the Boyd's stocks, but Dean says his are bit oversized, kind of like a match or super match M1a stock that SA uses, but for an M-1 of course. I think it is solid and helped improve accuracy. I don't like sythetic stocks anymore, and since you can get almost the same results with laminate, I think that's the way to go!
Dean has great looking wood for M-1 and does custom work as well, here's his link: DGR Home Page - Dean's Gun Restorations |

I got the M1 bug about 16 months ago - I now have one of each manufacturer. One CMP service Winchester, 3 from Orion 7 - A rebuilt to new SA, collector HRA and 90% IHC. Nothing but good things to say about both. Good service & quality. I'll be looking for a SA EMcF cartouched stock set soon to slap on my rebuilt SA - just for authenticity.
Any ideas?

I will be the first to say I just happily received MY FIRST CMP Service Grade Springfield Armory Garand! Its a December 1944 serial number, with a 1953 barrel. All parts seem to be SA stamped, with varying serials. I could not be happier!
If any guidance is needed, pop on over to the Mosin Nagant Roll Call thread and check it out there too.

| Here's my old rough 1944 WRA. Someday I'll try to restock it. The stock and handguards are pretty dented and dinged up. The bore is fair but it shoots good though. I got it for a very good price though. Also here is my bubbaed 1903 Rem. When I got it, it didn't have a rear sight and its got a 1944 1903a3 barrel on it. I don't know what somebody was doing with it.

I got a '44 Winchester M1 Garand; only markings are a Rack number of 0023 and a "2" on the underside of the pistol grip. It's my only M1 Garand and has a nice chrom plated barrel on it (I am an avid shooter with it and when I bought it it had a 50's barrel on it and almost shot out) Oh and the stock has tiny impressions from where in combat the soldier would tap the cartidges (while in the en-bloc) against the stock to make sure the cartidges were all seated properly so they wouldn't get stuck while loading. It's battle worn and I like my M1 because of it, it's been in war and it's got character!

Have not learned how to 'post' photos. Am no longer envious of you guys, at least regarding Garands-unless you have several.
Three weeks ago acquired my first Garand: CMP Service Grade, action/barrel Jan. '55 are "SA", op rod/trigger group "H&R". Very nice bore. The wood needs some work.

Well, I got the purty stock on my Winchester....Here is my FG Winnie I picked up at the North store in July! Still need to get a rear sight base or new aperture, and refinish the gas tube. Also op rod refurbished. But old number 688 is starting to look like a lady!

We had a family rummage sale last weekend. I caught my sister trying to sell the old GI Joe that I gave my nephew 15 years ago. I rescued him...of course!
This guy was brand new around 1970.
The only gear I managed to save was his trusty M1 Garand. One more for role call!!
I guess I'd better get on EBay and see if I can find some boots for the old fella!
