I have one. CMP danish return. SA May '41 receiver with VAR barrel. Currently naked since my stock split. (see previous posting) I like the original lock bar sight the most. I just sent in the paperwork for an HRA service grade. All this waiting is killing me.

| I don't have pictures, but I have three service grade Garands, all Springfield Armory. Their serial numbers place them 1942, 1943, and 1944/45. Bores and headspaces are good, no rust, restored stocks, green cotton canvas G.I. slings, and I have three 10" M1 bayonets with scabbards. Two have WRA barrels and one of them has a WRA bolt. All have the later rear sights without the locking bar. All three Garands were used at my father's funeral at the Beaufort National Cemetery by me and two other veterans in my family. The Army was able to provide an Army chaplain and three Army troopers from Fort Stewart, but they could not provide a enough troops for a rifle salute because of the enormous number of World War II veterans that were dying at such a fast rate; about 3000 per day nationwide. That was the summer before 9/11. I was given three enblock clips with .30 blanks by American Legion Post 147 in Charleston for which I'm grateful. Since we didn't have blank adapters at the time, we manually chambered each round. I have since purchased three NATO blank adaptors in the event we have to do it again. I guess I’ll never sell those Garands, but I will shoot them from time to time. |

After another tally from the last mark of 124, there are by my tally, 26 more to add. So far, thats a total of 150 Garands in the roll call thread. Thats a good round number to carry on from. Keep up the posting, and pics if possible with your roll call post!! Thanks for posting, and keeping the thread going

I originally posted about this rifle on the forum back in 2002 when I first got it. Those of you who were on the forum then will probably remember it. I bought it at an estate auction in Wallingford, CT. It was from the estate of a woman who died in late 2001. Her husband had died in 1997 at the age of 82. She had no heirs and left her estate to her church. The church hired an auction company to liquidate everything. The auctioneer told me about who she had left the estate to and said the rifle was found in the attic. What I didn't include when I originally posted about this rifle was that there was also a 1941 Johnson with it. Unfortunately, the Johnson was rusted beyond belief. I didn't even bid on it. It went for less than $500 as I recall. I paid $370 for the M1 plus buyer's premium and tax for a total of $431. Now, on to the information about the M1. It is a Springfield with serial number 1069XXX dating it to December 1942. The barrel is SA 12-42 and the stock has a worn, but nice, S.A./E.McF cartouche. TE is 3.5 and I was only able to check the muzzle wear by the bullet test as I don't have a muzzle gauge. Muzzle looked pretty good. Luckily, no corrosion or pitting in the bore. Although the rifle was dusty and dirty, the barrel was well lubricated. The rifle came with a leather sling and had the metal oiler, pull-through, and bore brush in the stock. Below are some of the part numbers. Barrel - 1-S-A-12-42 Bolt - D28287-17SA Heat lot B4C Op rod - D35382 6SA Unmodified Trigger housing - D28290-8-SA Hammer - C46008-3SA Safety - C46015-9SA Receiver - D28291-17 Heat lot R47 Follower - 11 The right front leg of the receiver has no markings indicating if the rifle was ever rebuilt. I tried doing some research on the woman's husband to find out about any military service but was unsuccessful. I went to the cemetery to look at his grave site to see if the stone showed any military service. It did not. Click on the links below to see pictures. | Three 1942 Six Digit SA's
I have three 1942 six digit SA Garands, well one is #5 Mini-G, the fifth Mini-G built by Tim Shfflin. Tim is a good friend of mine and had let a few of us know he was developing the Mini-G and had emailed us some pictures. As soon as I had seen the proto type he was working with, I knew instantly what I was going to do with the last six digit receiver and DuPage parts kit I had! I told Tim, "Put me down for one!" Tim made the Mini-G for me last year but I have yet to be able to fire it, maybe this summer when I get back on my feet. The other two rifles where also rebuilt by Tim for me, new barrels, (one has a new old stock 1955 SA barrel!) stocks, two stage target trigger jobs, reparked, the works! And they are sweet!!. One I gave to my son in law as a gift for his service, (the one with the 1955 SA barrel). Shawn has been to Afghanistan twice now and may very well be called back again. I have pictures of the Garands at PhotoBucket if you would like to see them. Click Here For Pics---> Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket And More Pics Here---> Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket I don't have any pics of the Mini-G yet, but you can see them here http://shuffsparkerizing.com/Conversion_Tanker_Sniper.php Guy Wilson P.S. I forgot my Nagant M44!! Last edited by Oh Mr. Wilson; 02-20-2009 at 09:29 PM. Reason: I forgot my Nagant M44!! |

| Late 1942 rifle posted by ronbo with rev 17 bolt
There was an article in the GCA Journal Volume 21 Issue 2 (Spring 2007) by Tony Pucci about late 1942 production rifles with revision 17 bolts. There is a data sheet on s/n 1,009,633 with a S-A 11-42 barrel, the bolt is also a revision 17 heat lot B4A. In the article, another rifle s/n 1015827 was found also with a revision 17 bolt heat lot B4A

I saw the article by Pucci and sent him an email about mine. I may have also sent some pictures but I don't recall for sure. Never received an acknowledgement from him so I don't know if he ever received the email or not. He requested that anybody with a rifle with a revision 17 bolt email him.

I have a new production (SAI) NM Garand, which has been modified a little. Rear handguard replaced with scout mount, added muzzle brake, McCann adjustable gas cylinder lock screw. Eotech works well to 200 yds, but the iron sights work, too. ![]() I may get a "real" Garand from CMP to go with this one, which is a lot of fun to shoot at steel gongs. |
