Well maybe someone more experienced with the different types of Garands may be able to outline some divisions with what we have, and don't have. Like all the different manufacturers that made them, etc.

Hey Gunadvocate,
that was my thought also. I believe a division is in the thousands, how many, I'm not sure.
I think we have a ways to go!

Just put some photos of mine up, have a looky. I didn't want to choke up this thread with all my photos, and I'm looking for a restoration shop too. And any advice as to what I might have here. http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/m1-...tml#post825110

I guess I can toss in a teaser photo here....1943 SA.....

Does anyone have any experience with CMP field grades? I am looking for one that is moderately accurate for shooting. I do not care nearly as much about matching wood, etc. The CMP says I should get a service grade, but I didn't know if the extra 100 dollars was really worth it.

Also, based on what I've said, any opinions on HRA versus SA?

I thought you meant divisions like who made the rifles. Like getting a category for SA or HRA, or others. Or rare breeds, snipers or any other models, etc.

Service Grades may well have better wood and better barrels. A feild grade may have a banged up muzzle or higher muzzle wear. You get what you pay for, and CMP is still the best deal out there.

HRA's tend to be more valuable as there aren't as many of them as SA's, and have nicer finishes, as they were made post WWII. Compare the prices of spare parts for both.

Here's what I got for a "division" or different models and manufacturers:

Springfield Armory: 56
Century Arms International: 2
Korean Import: 1
Miscellaneous (Garands counted, with no manufacture mentioned): 62
HRA: 17
Beretta: 2
H&R: 2
IHC: 12
Winchester: 5
DCM: 1
M1-C: 1
M1-D: 1
Breda: 1

And when someone mentioned they were CMP Garands, I tallied one up for CMP too, but it does not add in to the final total: 13. But from now on, post your rifle, and the manufacture so we can at least count who made it based on the receiver stamp. This brings the total up to 163.

Here is my most recent purchase. An all original H&R with bright shiny barrel and Muzzle Erosion guaged at less than 2. Purchased from the CMP North store. In addition to this, I have two all original Winchester "Win13" Garands.
