Tanker Garand Down Under.

Just a note to say I finally managed to finish building my 7.62mm Tanker Garand. It only took around two years to get the parts out of the States, then six months to find the spare time to chamber, rebarrel and assemble her. Took her out to my local club shoot and was most impressed. With a little more fine tuning she should shoot very tight groups indeed. I'm pretty stoked with how it looks and only know of one other in the country. I know they were never adopted into general service in America, but MATE! They should have been! Has anyone up your way had good times with these bits of kit?
Now to move onto my next project....The M1D/C.

Congratulations. Garands are a real hoot to shoot!! (thats the extent of my poetry, though it was unintential)

I"m surprised you are even allowed to have them Down Under. Thought they confiscated all your semis and sold the scrap off to China to turn into Wallmart bargains.

Probably one of those deals where you have to belong to a shooting club, pay a hefty tax (legal bribe) and go through registration on a yearly basis.

Now that your done setting headspace, send me your reamer. I still need to do the same to mine.

Post a pic or 2.

Gidday again. I think may have confused you. I should have said from "Way down under" New Zealand. But you are right when you say the Aussies rolled over and got srcewed by their anti gun Government. Would love to post a picture but don't realy know how. As for the reamer I've rebarred around six Garands now for me and a few cobbers and I suspect I'll have a few more to do. My mate and I are trying to convert the un educated shooters down here as to just how great these shooters are. Trouble is most of the Garands we have down here were flogged off the Marines during WW2 and have shot out tubes. Very hard to find a good straight shooter. As you can imagine we don't have a very deep pool of spare parts floating around down here. As a result we usually have to rebarrel the Garands that do turn up so they can be competed with at our club shoots.

Beautiful country you have! WOuld love to see it some time. Awsome looking water! But hows the fishing? Have the asians fished it out yet?
Hope you guys don't over populate it like we did with our country.

I can imagine how much of a pain it is to get parts shipped there as most folks here aren't willing to ship gun parts outside the states.
I was browsing through your version of ebay, ?something Trade? not long ago. Things sure are pricey there.

There is an Italian fella that has a lot of garand parts that ships internationally. He can be found on Gunbroker and Ebay. I"ve bought from him a couple of times. He's got good stuff and shipping is very fair priced. I actually cut a good deal with him on a bunch of spares. So order in quantity with your mates if you can. IF he doesn't list what you need, just ask him. I think he has good connections on getting what you need. He might be able to get you some new barrels.

We're in constant threat of ending up like the Aussies and Brits. The Democrates are big time anti gunners. And have been slowly, but surly, dimminishing our gun rights one small, seamingly insignificant law at a time.

P.S. Wheres the pics?

Gidday. The fishing is coming back, not as good as the days when Zane gray passed by. Still have a good game fishery and the eating fish are around if you know where to go. I've seen that Italian joker on Ebay but have as yet not traded with him. May have to do so in the future to get some gear off him. We hear your fear about gun reform all the way down here. The wowzers, blow hards and tree huggers of the world seem to be taking over the world and are getting their own back for the years of bullying they suffered at school!!! We have them down here as well. Can't say I have any time for them, they are slowly but surely stuffing up the country with their belief that everyone should hold their beliefs!
Again would love to post pictures but am technophobic and don't as yet know how. Next month our rifle club celerbrates a shoot called Best of American. We shoot Yank gear all day its a good shoot. Hopefully my cobber will have his gun camera up and running by then and I'll be able to post some pics and mayby video of the comp.

Anzac: If you know of anyone needing a damn good mechanical tech on temp assignment or special project, let me know and I'll forward them my resume. Haven't had a contract job for a while, actually been on a bit of a sabbatical. International assignments can be a great way to see/experience other countries.
I'm ex-aerospace and industrial. Specializing in very technical mechanics. Simple mechanics are always welcome as well. Hell, I can even drive a farm tractor if you know a farmer who needs seasonal help.

Maybe we can get some good fishing in. And if laws allow, I can bring along a garand, and leave it behind when I leave.
